I'm a long time Slingbox Pro owner.  Always used it around the house and out by pool with my laptop on my LAN.  Never really needed remote viewing.  Well a little wife trouble has me away from home quite often.  No problem I thought, I'll use my Slingbox and remote viewing capability.  Got it all configured up at home.  Took the laptop with me to my get away place for when the wife is upset place.  Fired up the slingbox application.  Hey it connected, and  it's streaming, wow there's a picture.  Man that picture looks crappy.  Streaming at about 300kbs, hard to watch.  When I try to use remote to control the DVR box at home it freezes up almost everytime, worse than that, about every 6 minutes the screen goes out and I get a message about router/firewall.  The message makes no sense to me since it was already streaming.  Very disappointed.  First time I really needed it to work remotely and it fails miserably.  My home network upload max is about 475kbs, but Im not getting that on remote viewing.  Be warned, remote viewing is not very good, unless I suppose you have much greater upstream kbs from the Slingbox.  If I dont know what the heck Im talking about and anyone can tell me how to make this work better, I would be grateful.

Remote viewing won't be as good as your LAN. What is your UPLOAD speed of your internet connection? Sling can only upload as much as your ISP will let it. Check with your ISP and maybe you can upgrade the speeds.

Slingbox Pro Slinging Comcast Analog and HD via Comcast Internet using AirLink Powerline adapters; Slingbox Classic Slinging Sunddenlink Analog Cable and DirecTV HR21 via Sunddenlink Internet, using netgear powerline adapters.

I get about 475kbs upload from my ISP.  I cant beleive that in order for remote viewing to work everyone has to upgrade to an overpriced internet plan. Even when I am getting around 300kbs to my remote PC, the picture is poor, trying to use the remote locks up the player, and it craps out after about 6 minutes with the firewall/router error.  I'm sorry to say, but I don't see how anyone could recommened the Slingbox to a novice computer user for remote viewing.  It's just not reliable.
