You can definitely watch using mobile broadband. The minimum speed is a combination of the upload speed at your slingbox location and the download of your mobile broadband. Though you can watch with less than 384kbps; I personally find it difficult to watch with anything less than 500-600kbps. One thing to watch out for is that you have unlimited data. Overages can add up quickly.

Hi sorry for the delay replying back to you, for some reason the Slingbox only connects at 2kbps but the USB Stick is connected at just under 2000kbps, do i need to change any settings?

You might need to have your slingbox use a standard port. But, run a speed test first and see what you have. Http://www.dslreports.com/stest

I think your good with the defaults the setup wizard provide. Everything looks good.

Everything may look good but it wont work!!

Please describe your slingbox setup and your computer setup with both ISP speeds. We'll get to the bottom of this.

Can I use mobile broadband to upload my slingbox feed?

September 3, 2008 7:31 PM

You could. But there would be a lot of drawbacks with that method.

1. Your latency would be atrocious. Imagine pressing a button on your remote control in your Sling Player and waiting 10-15 seconds for it to update.

2. Your "Mobile" Broadband wouldn't be mobile anymore. It would stay fixed at your house.

3. If you don't have unlimited bandwidth, it would eat up all your bandwidth allotment very quickly.

4. Most Mobile Broadband connections are that fast for uploading. So your picture quality would be very bad.

ah ok. actually, I do have an unlimitted plan, and I do leave my broadband card at home because it is the ONLY access to internet that I have out in the middle of nowhere.... What is a good minimum upload speed to attain for a semi-decent picture? I can check my connection with a speed test I guess.

Just for fun I tried this a few months ago using a D-Link DIR-450 and a Verizon Wireless PC5750 PCMCIA card.

Long story short, it didn't work.  It would stream for a few minutes (not smoothly) and then would drop.

I was actually hoping to establish a pier to pier connection within the Verizon router so that it would not log the data useage.  But it didn't work long enough for me to get any results to that experiment.
