Hi,
I wonder if anyone can make any suggestions on the issue I have with slingplayer on a particular pc. I have seen other threads about freezing of picture, but the issue I get is not only a frozen picture but a totally frozen system, non responsive to any keyboard or mouse input.
I run the player sucessfully on LAN reaching good speeds and a nice picture. This happens for a number of minutes/hours (varies a lot), and then the freeze issue happens with no warning, and at the same time the audio seems to constantly loop (less than 1 second fragment). Could this be hardware related (graphics card etc) or is it more likely to be the slingplayer?
I have tried updating my graphics card bios (Sapphire HD2600XT), drivers, pc bios etc. I have also tried different codec packs. There are no events in the system even log when this issue ocurs.
I have slingplayer V1.5.0.322 and will next try V1.5.0.325. I will also try updating my slingbox firmare, and maybe try using my onboard graphics to see if the same issues occur.
Any help or suggestions would be welcomed, or has anyone solved a similar issue?
Cheers,
Tim

Hi,
Indeed, I did slingplayer upgrade it last night.
The last few days I have been running some other tests on my media pc graphics card (ati-tool and rivatuner) to confirm that it is working correctly, and no heat/fan issues etc. From what I can determine, the graphics card is woring ok (apart from some errors in event viewer to do with catalyst control centre). These errors seem to be another issue with ATI releasing some incomplete code in their drivers. There are many threads on other forums for this. Though the errors are there, they dont seem to affect the system. As a note I have noticed the same errors on my other pc too. (also an ATI card, but older by a year)
To eliminate other issues, I tried to run my slingplayer on my other PC, and have experienced the same issue of freezing (though this doesnt hang the whole system, just the picture, where the sling player can be restarted).
So I tried to get hold of the slingplayer upgrade (V1.5.0.325), but couldn't find it on the UK support site. I am running Sky+ HD through my slingbox in the UK. However I found I could download from the US site, so I tried this. On testing on my main pc last night, it ran through the night :) (9 hours). So the next test is to install the same slingplayer version on my media pc and test that.
I have one issue with the US version though, my virtual remote control is wrong. It displays a default black one. I have tried selecting all of the Sky remote options and can only get one to work (the basic sky, not sky+). The issue with that is that it doesnt have the play/fwd/rwd features.
Does anyone know how to get the correct remote? OR, is there a UK version of the player at V1.5.0.325?
I will keep you updated on the tests on the media pc.....
Cheers,
Tim
Still same issues, been down the road of testing using a different PSU, but still no joy. Constant freezing or blue screen/reboots when running slingplayer. Nothing else causes the freeze, so I feel that the player is still number one suspect.
I notice that a new version of the UK player is available. 1.5.1
I will try this next.
After that, I think a windows install is my main option.
