I know the Nokia E71 isn't on the supported phone list for SlingPlayer but I though I'd try it out anyway. It works on the E90 after all.

For anyone interested the application installs fine but then none of the menu items or dialog boxes can be seen so it's impossible to configure anything. Even if it was possible to set it up I can't guarantee you'd be able to see  the video feed.

If anyone from SlingMedia is reading this please add the E71 to the supported phones :) I'd be more than happy to beta test anything. The E71 is an amazingly good phone, the build quality is excellent and it's very fast for a S60 device.

Anyone was able to successfully install Sling Player on Nokia e71 ? Please send screen shots of the sling working on the phone.

After reading reports in this forum of the E65 version of mobile sling player working on the E71 (don't know about E71x), I downloaded and installed Version 1.02.06 and it did in fact install and complete the setup process quite nicely. I've tested just about every version of the software on this phone and this was by far the most complete, bug-free installation.

Ironically, the power supply to my Sling Tuner died this week and Sling Support (1 877 GO SLING) wants $20 for an out of warranty replacement 6VDC/2A adapter. I'm thinking not; I'll settle for Netflix Watch Immediately, YouTube, Hulu, etc.

So, I finally have a setup that would likely work, but a dead power supply prevents me from boasting to all my friends and social-marketing this capability on behalf of Sling.

On my end, it's definitely worth saving $20 right now to stop using Sling; there are textbook economic substitutes that are Good Enough for me; but is it really worth $20 to Sling to lose such an active early adopter and social media product advocate? I guess they believe that it is.

If the link is not working..try the US site for the download.

Hi metavalent !

Thanks for your descriptive reply. About the dead adapter for sling - what I would do, I would stop by any electronics store and pick up universal adapter that can match in voltage and amperes as replacement for original one - it would cost $5 to $10 and be readily available to you quickly. Also, if you would pick an adapter with switchable polarity than you almost certainly will get it working.

Question: I went to Sling UK website and tried to download version 1.02.06, the download doesn't seem to work. On US version of Slingmedia.com the version of the sling player for Symbian S60 devices is different - it is Version 1.01.09 (and this one doesn't work on Nokia e71).

If you could post downloaded file (Version 1.02.06) on this forum for us to try that would be absolutely awesome.

Your input is greatly appreciated ! Good Luck !

Best regards,

Ed

Try download 1.02.06 from this direct link.

Guys, I am confirming that in fact Sling player version 1.02.06 (officially listed for Nokia e65) Download link is here http://mobile.slingmedia.com/go/phoneSelector?brand=Nokia&model=E65
in fact DOES Work on Nokia e71- (2nd revision). Installation is straight forward, installs fine w/o errors, configuration wise I used slingbox ID, checked the box Administrator and typed my password for slingbox. It worked like a charm. I am using an older Sling AV box (I think that is one of the first products they developed 3 + years ago. It works !!!

I spent 20 minutes chatting with Sling support person Natalia was her name.

Speaking with her wasn't exactly smooth, every opportunity she was trying to shave me off by saying, since you don't have paid version installed, I won't help you. I would pay, if your app would work on my phone ! What should be first the chicken or the egg ?
After, spending 20 minutes with her trying to explain all-that-I-need is the working link to download specific version of software.. Finally, I got it !

Check my chat session with Sling customer service...Nice !

[10:30 AM] Chat session established with Natalia.
[10:30 AM] Natalia says: Thank you for contacting Sling Media Technical Support. My name is Natalia. Which product are you looking for support today?

[10:30 AM] Ed K says: Hi Natalia ! My name is Ed

[10:30 AM] Natalia says: Hello Ed.
[10:31 AM] Natalia says: How can I assist you today?

[10:31 AM] Ed K says: I am here today to get some help with downloading Mobile player for Nokia s60 device, I am having trouble to download SlingPlayer Mobile for Symbian S60 1.02.06
[10:32 AM] Natalia says: Ed, I understand that you are trying to download the SlingPlayer Mobile software to the Nokia S60, correct?
[10:32 AM] Ed K says: yes.
[10:32 AM] Ed K says: very important the version number

[10:32 AM] Natalia says: I apologize for this inconvenience.

[10:32 AM] Ed K says: that makes the application work on my particular device.

[10:33 AM] Natalia says: May I know when did you purchase the Registration Key, please?

[10:34 AM] Ed K says: I purchased registration key for Windows CE version a few years ago. Now, I am trying to get it working on Nokia device, to test it first for 30 days and see if I like it.

[10:35 AM] Natalia says: I understand, Ed.

[10:35 AM] Ed K says: Order confirmation for order #********* (my older version number)

[10:35 AM] Natalia says: The issue is that the model of your mobile is not listed.

[10:36 AM] Ed K says: I am aware of that, however there are reports that version 1.02.06 does work. I have spoken to several people online who successfully installed the mobile player on Nokia s60 phone with 1.02.06

[10:37 AM] Natalia says: Also, unfortunately because your Sling product is older than 90 Days or 1 year, the only way to receive technical support from Sling Media via email, voice and chat is to purchase a Per Incident Support Agreement. Its price is $29.99.

[10:38 AM] Ed K says: Natalaia, I understand the policy clearly. I am not asking to troubleshoot my installation, indeed simply asking to send me the link or by email the version of Mobile Player for Symbian 1.02.06

[10:39 AM] Natalia says: What is the model of you mobile, Ed?

[10:39 AM] Ed K says: Nokia e65 (UK version)

[10:40 AM] Natalia says: I see.

[10:40 AM] Ed K says: Great !

[10:41 AM] Natalia says: I'm sorry, I was checking the information about the this latest software and the model of your mobile is not there and also, we have no details about UK versions yet.
[10:41 AM] Natalia says: I suggest you to go to our website and try to download the software from there:
[10:41 AM] Natalia has sent a link: http://support.slingbox.com/go/home
[10:42 AM] Natalia says: Otherwise, if you decide to purchase the Pay per Incident plan for assistance, I would suggest you to contact us at 877.GO.SLING (877.467.5464) to proceed with resolving your problem. For security reasons, we do not take credit card information via chat.

Once you purchased a support agreement, feel free to contact us back via chat or continue the troubleshooting over the phone and we will gladly help you.

[10:43 AM] Ed K says: Natalia, that is what I did in the first place, went to the website to download it. The link didn't work. My phone is listed there, please re-check.
[10:43 AM] Ed K says: this is the link http://www.slingbox.com/go/symbian-devices
[10:43 AM] Ed K says: Nokie e65 is there.

[10:44 AM] Natalia says: Not the UK version, Ed.
[10:44 AM] Natalia says: You might go to the link for Downloads and try to download the software from there.

[10:44 AM] Ed K says: Give me a second and I will give you UK link
[10:45 AM] Ed K says: I went to download page of the UK version of Slingmedia.com, navigated to the point where I can download the application - the link on the website IS NOT working. This is why I am here chatting with you, hoping you can help me obtain the application by FTP link or sending this over to my email.

[10:46 AM] Natalia says: Then, try to download the software from the mobile itself.
[10:46 AM] Natalia says: Go to this link:
[10:46 AM] Natalia has sent a link: http://mobile.slingmedia.com/

[10:46 AM] Ed K says: This is the link http://uk.slingmedia.com/go/symbian (my phone listed there Nokia e65)

[10:46 AM] Natalia says: The model is listed in UK but I don't think they have the latest software yet. We have no details about that yet.
[10:47 AM] Natalia says: Try the link that I gave you. You need to do it from the mobile.
[10:47 AM] Natalia says: Is there anything else I can do for you?
[10:49 AM] Natalia says: Are you there?

[10:49 AM] Ed K says: Yes, please help me to find the other download page or forward me the link to get Sling Player Version 1.02.06 for Nokia s60 Model e65. I certainly believe that this is something minor and should be professionaly handled instead of asking me to bounce off, and look in my own. Afterall, I am an existing custoner of Sling Box, with prevous history.

[10:49 AM] Ed K says: Yes I am here, I can't believe that this is so difficult.

[10:50 AM] Ed K says: I've contacted Sling before on several occassions, I never had a problem getting information or help. Why, am I treated differently this time ? If you don't have enough information, ask your colleagues around.

[10:51 AM] Natalia says: The software is there, Ed.
[10:51 AM] Natalia says: I just checked and it is working fine.
[10:51 AM] Natalia has sent a link: http://mobile.slingmedia.com/go/phoneSelector?brand=Nokia&model=E65

[10:51 AM] Ed K says: Thank You ! This is all I was asking.

[10:51 AM] Natalia says: You might try to uninstall the old software version and then install the new one. You will need the Slingbox ID, password and the Registration Key.
[10:52 AM] Natalia says: You're very welcome!
[10:52 AM] Natalia says: Thank you for contacting Sling Media Tech Support. Have a nice day!

[10:52 AM] Ed K says: Thank You ! Have an excellent day !
[10:52 AM] You have ended the session.

Finally.

Working great on my E71 at last, why on earth they didn't get this working sooner though? I just got the download from going to slingplayer.com on the mobile itself.

It works very well ! I am impressed despite extended wait to get to this point, and spending extra $$$ on HAVA box (which I bought a few month ago). I am still liking it on my Nokia e71 ! Now I can stream with two different boxes with Sling and with Hava since I have both. One thing though about HAVA player, when you are at home streaming TV within local network, up to 5 computers can access it at the same time, where sling only allows you one connection.

Good Job Sling !!!

Hello Spideog,

What model did you choose whiule the e71 is not in the list?

November 2, 2009 5:07 PM

E65 version is the one I selected for download. I think they are all the same though, you just need to get the 1.02.06 version and it should work fine.

November 2, 2009 10:40 PM

Thank you, Sling, for *finally* getting this working on the E71. The wait was way too long, but I'm glad it's finally over.

PS for other folks using it: It seems to work okay even over EDGE on T-Mobile, which really (happily) surprised me. It stutters periodically, but it's better than nothing.

Could someone post install directions (the easiest method!) for e71 newbies?

Thank-you!

Terri

Open the browser on the phone.
Go to www.slingplayer.com.
Select Sling Player Mobile Download.
Select Nokia.
Select E65
Download the file and run the installer.

Once the installer completes select Options then Slingbox Directory, then ad the details and ID for your box.

Watch some TV on your phone.

OH HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!!! I had just purchased an E63 on October 24 (after returning an E75 to Dell in August for being way too buggy) in the hopes that it would do all I wanted it to do. I was actually going to return it to the Nokia store in NYC on Saturday--mostly because it WOULDN'T WORK WITH MY SLING after reading this ENTIRE thread on October 27!!! I didn't realize that when I bought it since it DID work on the E75 and I had already bought the Sling Mobile software. I was doing one last net search to find out if I had ANY other options besides returning (and going back to my used 6620, ugh) 'cuz I didn't want to invest in a Hava. I guess my 14-day return timing was perfect as I ended up here again to get THE BEST NEWS I'VE HAD ALL WEEK!!

Just downloaded, installed and VOILA!!! And I'm running a 3-year old Sling A/V. *tear* I'm so happy now--even though I REALLY wanted that E75. It's such a beautiful phone.

Methinks I *FINALLY* have a new phone after six years!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for keeping us all up to date on this thread that's been going on for over a year now.

Terri

Step 1:

download an application on your phone
http://download.slingmedia.com/player/mobile/symbian-S60/SlingPlayerMobile_S6..

or short url
http://bit.ly/JD9lV

Step 2:
Use File Manager (located in Office-->File Mgr) to navigate to downloaded file on your phone the file name you are looking for is SlingPlayerMobile_S60_US_1_02_06_Signed .sis - hit in the center of navigation button on your phone to install it. (install it either to Phone Memory or MicroSD card)

Step 3:

Go to Installation Folder, inside you will find a new logo Sling Player - click on it.

Step 4: Configuration of the Sling Player on Nokia E71
a) Click Options (on the left side)
b) Select Slingbox Directory
c) Click Options again Add New Sling Box
d) Sling box name: whatever you like
e) Select option Use Slingbox ID
f) Slingbox ID box- type in your id number
g) Password - type in your admin password for Slingbox
i) Select Use Admin Password.

Click DONE.

Once all of the above has been completed (assuming that
you have the sling box itself installed and connected to your home cable box) you are ready to watch tv.

After configuration is done, go back to options and select START, which will launch the connection and start streaming your TV to your phone.

P.S. you may get a few messages while obtaining the first connection. One may say this application is not supported on your phone, contunue or not, just continue click YES.
Also, it may ask you to register the software, you can say no, until 30 days trial period ends. After that point you will need to register it.

I hope this helps.

Ed

Good to hear this !!! I think many people are very very happy that this case is finally solved.

May be you could go back to the store and get Nokia e75 back ? after all that is a very capable phone, which can last you for a long time. On another hand Nokia e63 is an excellent device as well.

Good Luck !!!
