I just purchased all this at the same time and I think maybe I made some poor assumptions.

 I have the HD TiVo (with cable decoder cards) component outputted to my LCD TV.  Yay.

So now I'm trying to connect the SlingBox Pro and it appears it doesn't support HDMI input so I have to make a component choice from the output of my HD TiVo to either the slingbox OR to my TV.  Obviously neither of those are acceptable choices.

Does anybody know how I can connect my HD TiVo, Component LCD TV, and SlingBox Pro at the same time?  My apologies if this a question asked before and I just didn't find it.

I figured it out. Component is different from A/V so it's all good...

Do you have the HDConnect for the Pro? It has a passthru so you connect Tivo to SlingBox, SlingBox to TV.

FYI, yellow/red/white RCA connectors are composite.

Slinging Tivo Series 2, Tivo HD, and TW cable from a Pro. Slinging Tivo HD from a Solo, Slinging Humax DRT800, and TW cable from a Classic to Sprint Mogul, AT&T SX66, N62, 8525, and Dell Inspiron 8600 with Sprint EVDO over Windstream DSL.

I don't have the HDConnect. I have now the TiVo HDMI output to my TV (I'm assuming this passes HD quality).

I have my TiVo passing S-video and the two prong audio to the SlingBox. I'm not sure if this will pass HD quality though...I think I have to get that HDConnect to do that right (didn't come with the SlingBox Pro I don't think).

If that is the case then I'll have to take composite from my TiVo (3 prongs) and the 2 prong audio that's in there now and put that into the HDConnect (I think). Does that sound about right?

I think the Tivo HD can't use HDMI and component at the same time so you'd be best off using component to the HDConnect, then component to the TV.

It's a running debate whether you get a better picture with the component input vs the SVideo. I think you do but it's not major.

Component=Red/Blue/Green+Red/White audio.

Composite=Yellow+Red/White audio.

It's one of those things that if you're happy with it with the quality you're getting don't worry about it. If you can pick up an HDConnect cheap, go for it..

When the Pro HD comes out it will be a different story because it will sling in true HD.

TiVo HD will simultaniously output on HDMI and component. From a technical standpoint, the picture is better with component versus SVideo to the Slingbox - it's progressive scan, anamorphic resolution, and streamed and at higher bitrates. In real world use, you won't probably notice a difference outside the house and it'll be marginally better within. Most folks are probably fine sticking with SVideo rather than purchasing the HDConnect with the additional clutter and expense.

Hey Dave, a little off topic but did they change that? A few months ago I connected HDMI to a 2nd TV and I got an HDMI/HDCP error but I don't remember what it was. I just connected RCA splitters and component to both. I tried it now and it works with HDMI though.. Or am I just crazy??

The HDCP flag could be by channel or provider? I always ran HDMI to the TV and component to the Slingbox - and infact, that's what I do now. Sounds like something HBO would do... ;)

Thanks fellas. I actually purchased the HDConnect (for use with the SlingBox Pro)....not sure if that's the one you're talking about ryandh that slings in true HD or not....and I have HDMI going from my HD TiVo into my TV and I have composite a/v going from the TiVo into the HDConnect.

My findings on quality agree with everybody else as far as the S-Video or HDConnect debate. I can see a very sleight difference mostly with text favoring the HDConnect over S-video but it's so marginal as to not be worth it in my opinion.

The HDConnect allows HD input but the Pro doesn't sling full HD.

You're connecting COMPONENT to the HDC..
