I set up a US Slingbox Pro in Japan and got it to work fine while I was there. At the airport I tried to do a remote view and was blocked. I tried to do a manual set and got the following messag: The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are trying to watch is set up for remote viewing and not blocked by a firewall/NAT settings. Error: 0x8007274D. Is it possible for me to make whatever changes need to be made via my laptop here in the USA?

Did you try it outside of your home network in japan? I suspect that you only set it up for local viewing. If this is the case, you will need someone with local access to it to finish the remote viewing setup.

Where would they go for that. This is the first time setting this thing up and it is like the blind leading the really blind. If you can step by step it that would be much appreciated.

You're basically setting the box up for the first time over again. I would look into the manual and follow the directions for setting it up.

So I need to have uninstall and reinstall?

You don't need to uninstall your computer. But, you will need to install the software on a local computer in japan.

Phil,

Thanks for your replies. Here is a little more detail. I had the program loaded on a computer in Japan before I left and set everything up according to the Wizard. I don't have a manual. So do I need to uninstall the program from the Japan computer and reinstall and have my father in law click remote viewing or is there a way he can go into the player and turn it on. Thanks.

I believe it's more the fact that the router doesn't have the correct ports open and forwarded. The easiest thing to do for him would be to do a hard reset of the box and run the setup wizard again. Are you absolutely sure you didn't finish the remote setup? Have you tried watching on another computer?Perhaps you have a firewall on your laptop.

Phil.

I turned off my firewall and still got an error message. So I think I need to do the hard reset you suggest. I have not tried this on another computer except the one in Japan and that one is connected directly to the router. I am not 100% sure I enabled remote viewing but I am pretty sure. I will let you know what happens thanks.

Ok. Report back your findings. Good luck.
