yes - that sound like a good option - any slingbox will do in my book. But if you have HD signal - get a HD model even though the bandwidth might not be high enough to support it.
But the cleaner the input signal (eg. like Digital HD) the better the slingbox (or any other video compression codec) can compress the signal. So more noise in signal = more bandwidth used for "nothing"
And since HD mostly uses component in the US as far as I know - you get a bit cleaner signals compared with Composite or S-VHS.
And you could even hook up the DVD and watch movies together - just remember there can be up to 20 sec. delay :-) - i watched a ball game once and had friend on skype... and they cheered before I did..... :-)

Hey my wife is about to start her graduate degree in England. We were thinking that using a slingbox my be a really good option so she can watch some tv while she is there.
I could hook it up at our house with the DVR and she could watch TV in England without buying a TV (which we couldn't really use when she comes back since it wouldn't be NTSC but PAL) and there would be no need to be paying the $275.00 or so a year in taxes to own a TV over there.
Also, if you have used a slingbox are the differences only inputs or is one model more efficent and clearer?
Thanks,
I looked at the HD but I ended up just getting the AV for now from Amazon.com since if from now till the end of the month if you buy something from them with bill-me-later you get 20.00 off so I picked up an AV with free 2day shipping due to prime for 86.00
