Wouldn't it be easier to use VNC in that case?

Looking at the details here: http://www.slingmedia.com/go/slingcatcher
I see that it says "Watch video from your PC" in the bottom right of the page.
My question is, will this only work within my LAN? or can I get this remotely?
If it is LAN only (which I think it is), I suppose that I could connect the AV output from the Slingcatcher to a Slingbox, and then accomplish this.
I haven't tried VNC, but I have tried remote desktop. The problem is that it doesn't show the video well. Sling converts the video into a reasonable bandwidth that can be viewed. Remote desktop (I assume VNC too) doesn't do that.

That is true, but you'd presumably have to have someone on the other end to use the sling projector feature to send you the video. VNC is like remote desktop but can work from non-windows platforms.
Well, you could always trick the Slingcatcher or the Slingprojector (which ever is doing the enforcement) into thinking they are operating on the same subnet via a VPN. However, there is no guarantee that either of the two would work well streaming in a remote setting. They may need low latency and high bit rates to stream.
The current design, for at least the first release, is LAN content. But it is certainly possible that content from a remote PC will be supported in an update. Right now we're focused on the first level of functionality for the product release, but there will be more features added in updates.
-MegaZone, Sling Media Beta Manager
Slingbox Pro, HD Connect, TiVo Series3, TiVo Pioneer DVR-810H, SPM Treo 680, SP WinXP
(I also run GizmoLovers.com)
Yes Please! Lets just focus on the core function - remote viewing the slingbox itself. Then we can add other optional features.
I installed a PC in my car to do the function that I want the Catcher to do. The PC works fine but is a little noisy with the swtching power supply. It is a lot of high heat - high current hardware to do such a simple function.
