Is anyone else having issues with their Slin device not being able to successfully obtain an address via DHCP? With a debug on my router, I'm ovserving a constant stream of DHCPDISCOVER's followed by the router returning DHCPOFFER's which my Slingbox pro appears oblivious to and simply goes on to make another DHCP request. I don't think it's my router, cable, or port. I have 87 other wired devices in my home, including PC's, Home automation controllers for various functions, touch panels, thermostats, you name it.. It seems to be exclusive to my Slingbox.

I've tried resetting the slingbox.. using a rumored default address of 192.168.1.237 (I found a claim on the internet that the Slingbox defaults to this address in the absence of DHCP, but I cannot seem to get it to function without DHCP). It doesn't appear that anyone at Sling tech support actually is knowledgeable about networking as far as I can tell.

I was under the impression the Sling Box didn't take an allocation from the DHCP server, and was given a fixed IP (e.g. xx.xx.xx.237) so that your port forwarding would always be correctly mapped - which it wouldn't if the DHCP gave it a different IP one day.

As was stated most people don't ues DHCP with their Sling becuase you can't port forward when you don't know the address. Your use of 192.168.1.xxx may not have worked depending on what your local networks IP address is. Try running through the entire setup again and give your Sling a static IP. The only way around it I'd see is if your router can hold a "reservation" on DHCP for a specific MAC address. If that still doesn't help there could be an issue with your specific box.

After all that, and Sling support telling me there was nothing wrong, I finally convinced the local manager of my circuit city store to let me exchange my Pro for a new one, even though I purchased it months ago, and voila! It works just fine.. Googling the net, it looks like a number of other people have had issues with their Sling devices not registering which were fixed with a replacement unit.
