Are you using your laptop inside of your local network or on another remote network?
my slignbox tunner is located in mass and my son is in georga. i can access the slingbox fine using my wireless laptop, however, starting about 2 months ago my son started having problems accessing the slingbox. prior to 2 months ago all was fine. all software and firmware is up to date. my son has 3 computers 2 with xp 1 with vista. none of these machines work? any ideas?
My laptop goes through my LinkSys router and my son is connected through his Belkin router. Does this answer your question?
Yes it does. Can you bring your laptop to a coffee shop or someplace with Internet and try to run the slingplayer software? This will determine if it's the your local Internet or your son's.
Phil,
I went to a coffee shop as you suggested and as you suspected I could not connect to the Slingbox. This is confusing to me, it seems that if you are connecting through a wireless network to the internet you should be able to do it from anywhere. Also the fact that this problem just started a few months ago. Before that all was well.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Steve
Seems like the router is not forwarding the ports correctly. Run the router configuration again.
I reset the Slingbox and reinstalled from the beginning. Also added the router changes following the Slinbox installation procedures. Below are my settings under
Applications & Gaming.
Port Range
Application Start End Protocol IP Address Enable
Slingbox 5001 to 5001 Both 192.168.2.237 X
Is there anything else I need to change in the router?
Still does not work. More info, I am using DSL with a Westell modem. The thing is that my son seems to get to the Slingbox but it tells him that it my be turned off or there is some other problem.
