You can control up to 4 different devices with the Slingbox Pro. Just make sure they are officially supported devices. The Pace 4000 sounds possible. Not a definite, but still possible. You might want to call the cable company and see if they will give you a new box. Usually they will because you can order new services and such with new boxes.
I already have an input switcher for 4 inputs which can be used with remote control. It is a Joytech model and has analog video (s-video or composite) out and L+R phonos for audio.
I have four input devices hooked up to it and would like to use two of them with the Solo; the (old style Pace 4000 Telewest cable box) and a DVD Player.
I'm hoping that I'll be able to control the cable box with the SlingPlayer software but am wondering how difficult/easy it might be to send infrared codes using the SlingPlayer to the other two devices. They are all in the same stack so positioning the RC bubble so that any codes eminating from it would have enough coverage to hit all 3 devices wouldn't be a problem.
The problem might be that the SlingPlayer software would only support one remote control.
The Joytech Switcher remote only has an on/off toggle and 4 buttons for input choice (labeled 1-4) I'd only need to control 2.
The essential DVD player controls would be on/off toggle, play, fast-forward and rewind.
The cable box has an on/off toggle and I'd need to have channel up and down.
That's 10 infrared codes in total.
I realise that if the SlingBox were able to use more than one remote profile then there wouldn't be a problem but I somehow doubt that it is able to do that. Am I right?
How about creating my own virtual remote for the SlingPlayer? Might this be possible? If so, is the SlingBox able to "learn" remote codes or would I have to find out which codes have to be sent to the various devices?
(Subtopic: I'm not even sure that the SlingPlayer app will be able to control my old-style cable box. Virgin Media (who took over Telewest) have confirmed that it is a "Pace 4000 K". On a list of supported devices that I downloaded from the SlingBox site, I see that it will support a "Pace D4000" and I'm hoping that this (or another Pace profile) will do the trick. I joined Blueyonder/Telewest a long time ago and it was about 2001 when they gave me the cable box. Does anyone have any experience of using SlingPlayer to control this older model box?)
Any help much appreciated. Thanks.
