Yesterday I updated to the newest firmware available, 1.0.15, but that didn't help. The video quality is still very low and it's streaming only with less than 200 Kbps, both to windows and Mac client.

Last night I was watching a soccer game, and according to the website it was streaming in 350 Kbps, and the quality was fine - so it doesn't take much more for the slingbox to be okay, but I don't know how to get it there?

Take a look at the screenshot, with the slingplayer it's sometimes not even possible to see the ball because of the bad quality:

I hope somebody can tell me what to do as we would really like to be able to watch soccer in just a little better quality :)   The internet connection where the slingbox is located should have at least 1mbit upload.

Okay, seems I couldn't include images the usual way, so will try this one instead :)

A stream of 197k is no where even close enough to see a sporting event. I have a 600kbps stream and that still is just barely good enough to see. Have you run speed tests to see what kind of bandwidth you have at both the slingbox location and the remote location?

Problem seem to be solved now, upgraded the internet connection - it was a few mbits upload before, not sure how much it's at now, but it's streaming with 1200 kbps, so it's pretty good compared.
