Hi. I recently got a Slingbox SOLO as a gift. It works great when I access my cable box at home (where the Slingbox is hooked up), but I'm having trouble accessing it remotely. I am using SlingMedia for Mac by the way. At home, I select the Direct Connection option to connect through an IP address. But when trying this remotely, I always get the "Connection failed" message, so I assume the direct connection only works when I'm at home. I've tried connecting using the Slingbox ID that I found in my account online, but it says it is invalid when I to connect both at home and remotely.

Any idea why I'm having trouble? Thanks for any advice in advance.

I'm also fairly new, so take my advice knowing that.

Make sure you your home router has port forwarding turned on. You can access it via the LAN without port forwarding on, but connecting remotely is impossible without this. I'd ran the Router diagnostic thing located through slingbox and see if that works. Its also called Universal Plug and Play or something along those lines.

Thanks for that advice. I'll take a look at my router when I get a chance and see if the port forwarding is the issue. But just to clarify, you can only connect remotely using the Slingbox ID - not the direct connection through an IP address - right?
