You probably have a firewall on your desktop. Something like Norton or so.
Hey all. I just got a Slingbox Solo and got it setup for remote viewing. The slingbox is in Texas and I am in California, so I made sure to test the remote viewing from outside the network before I left Texas. Everything worked fine, was able to remote view on 2 different computers outside the network. But I'm back home in California, and when I load the sling player on my desktop, it gets stuck at "Starting stream...". I then tried it on my laptop, and I was able to get it working. So for whatever reason, I can't get remote viewing working on my desktop, which is where I really want to use it. My desktop is running XP. I have a Linksys wireless router, but the desktop is wired. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I don't have a firewall. I have AVG Free 8.0 but it doesn't have a firewall, at least that I can see. I also have Peer Guardian, but I disabled it and had the same problem. I think I am able to connect to the sling box, because when I click on Slingbox properties I can see all the Slingbox information.
A firewall is the most common problem in your situation. I'm not sure you can see the slingbox if you see all the information. I'm not certain about this, but maybe the information is cached on SlingMedia's servers along with your SlingID. Sometimes rouge spyware or viruses can cause a Slingbox's stream to not come across. Some viruses and spyware send information on non-standard ports (like a SlingBox's).. Try running some more virus scans and spyware scans. And start disabling stuff if that doesn't work.
