Hi,
I posted earlier about not able to connect to my slingbox(located in Hong Kong) from my US home. I asked my aunt to stop by my home there to reboot the slingbox. After she did that, it works like normal. Based on the information that I read from this forum, I did the following change from my router:
- based on the slingbox MAC address, I reserve its DHCP IP address (192.168.0.237) to my D-link router although from the D-link webinterface it couldn't see the slingbox. I basically just type in the MAC address with the assigned IP and also increased the DHCP range from 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.140 in order to include the sling IP
- I open VNC port from my Hong Kong router so that I can VNC to my laptop over there to control my router status
Now it comes to the question. Once the slingbox is back in service, I check the slingbox properties from the sling player. I found that the "Ping" option is NO and the Ping Period is 1800. Since we all suspect that the connection problem may come from slingbox ping period, I wonder if anyone of you knows how I can enable the Ping option, especially if I can do that remotely (outside of my Hong Kong home LAN network)?
In addition, my firmware version is the one comes with the box (1.0.1 release date is sept 13, 2006). I will go back to Hong Kong in October, do you all have any recommendation whether I should upgrade the firmware or not? If I do,where I can get the firmware for the Hong Kong SB? Other than the connectivity issue, which happens once a week (workaround is to reboot the SB), I don't have much complains. With my situation where I spend most of the time in US while the box is in HK, I wonder if you have any suggestions on how to solve my problem?
Thanks!
