Hey guys,

I just saw on Sling's website that they are taking pre-orders for the SlingCatcher and it also looks like the Pro-HD Slingbox.

Could the Catcher finally be shipping soon that so many of us have wanted? I can't believe it!

It can't be true, if it actually comes out then what will people have to complain about? The threads on Slingcatcher that are over 200 strong will die.....

Slingbox ProHD Slinging DirecTV HR23 and OTA HD via Comcast HSI using AirLink Powerline adapters; Slingbox Pro and Classic Slinging and D* HR21/D12 via Sunddenlink HSI, using Linksys Gaming adapter. 2 Slingcatchers set up to use Slings.

Yeah, well pre-orders are being taken. Hopefully it will ship before Christmas! I think it's on my goodie list for Santa!

FYI, if you didn't notice, there's also a link to amazon.com offering pre-orders.. Free shipping.. $299.99 out the door... I went thru amazon only because it allows to cancel orders before shipment.. So once these actually are released, if I can find one locally and not have to wait for it, I can cancel the order and go buy one....

Not only Catcher, but PRO HD is also now available for pre-order. The catcher announcement is going up shortly.

You can pre-order PRO HD and SlingCatcher now in the Sling Community Shop (it's powered by Amazon, so you get a great price and free shipping, plus it helps support the community.)

May be cold in hell today. "pre-order" is, however, not shipping. It has been coming soon for over a year.

but, as a great one recently was known to say, getting this thingy out by Xmas would be a good f.. idea!

It's easy to be skeptical, particularly when it comes to the Catcher (I've been waiting just as long as everyone else). However, offering up a product for pre-orders has implications, and usually implies you're 30 days or less from shipping product. Plus, it's not just Sling taking orders, Amazon is too, and I'm sure they're positive they'll be able to deliver products to customers.

I'm telling myself not to get too excited, but I can't help it. It's really looking like reality is less than a month away.

Amazon had a slingcatcher page up a WHILE ago, so did sears right? Was that legacy or foreshadow?

but pre-order IS a difference

I'd call it "jumping the gun." :-)

However, they weren't taking orders on it until now. And you're right, that definitely is the big difference.

Newegg has the Slingcatcher and Slingbox HD listed for pre-order. They have also listed a release date:

Slingcatcher (10/2/2008)
Slingbox HD (9/25/2008)

Yes. I pre-ordered two.

But.... When I went to a local store to buy a in stock sling hd they actually had two sling catchers on the shelf.  Well I tried to buy it but it wasn't sku'd up in there computer yet... So they didn't want to sell it..

But to make a long story short I have it and got it working last night.  I turned up the rez to 640 x 480 from a sling pro at my office.  The picture looked great on my TV.  It was streaming via my commcast internet and saw it go from 800k to 1200k .  I left it running over night and it was still working fine.

I can't play with it again till Friday at the earliest but it seems to be a great device.

I meant at which Retail Store did you buy it?  I called SlingMedia and they said it would be impossible for you to have purchased one at a retail store.  Having said that, I actually believe you over them.

It is certainly possible, I believe it. They SHOULDN'T, but that doesn't mean they don't.

Any units shipped before release are going to be running pre-release software and the actual production software won't be available until the release.

To the best of my knowledge, the Catcher has NOT been released. Anyone getting them is getting them ahead of the time they should get them.

If you do get a Slingcatcher early, be sure to do your civic duty. Please bring the device back to the place of purchase (refuse delivery) or manually destroy the device. Then you may wait until the street date to purchase a Slingcatcher legitimately.
