Again the same story, I upgraded the firmware and poof the remote disappeared. Th same comcast box and same setup no changes other then the firmware. I can not find a correct solution. No my girlfriend at home has to set the channels to my wish so I can watch, with the 6 hour time difference.
Quite a hassle. I will try to go through the RMA process. Keep your fingers crossed as I am frustrated something like a software bug can a fully functional box and I am on the other side of the ocean.
Anyone have phone number that works talking to SB ?
Thank you
About a month ago while remote viewing my slingbox, the remote control was suddenly disabled. I tried reseting, rebooting and upgrading the firmware on my SlingBox AV, but nothing fixed the issue.
Then I upgraded to the new SlingPlayer Beta and my problem was solved...for about a week. Now whenever I reset my SlingBox and re-run the setup wizard I get the following error message when I set my Country as USA:
"This SlingBox was not originally designed to to be used in USA. Click fix to changed the location or Contrinue to proceed anyway"
If I click fix and try another country, I get the same message for all available countries. If I continue, the setup succeeds, by my original problem (disabled remote in the SlingPlayer) persists.
Please help! College football season is in full swing and I'm dying with no SB at my tailgates!
Well, my RMA experience is good so far (still waiting for them to get the defective unit back). The new unit works fine and there's no annoying "not made for the US" message. I wonder what caused that issue???
eric, I dialed the SB listed number 650-293-8000 and they answered pretty quickly and got my RMA processed without a headache.
Good luck!
Just a quick note from another cross posted area, I'm having this same issue. Spoke to Customer service just now, did a few troubleshooting steps which didn't work, and I got the $99 RMA offer since I'm out of warranty.
No thanks, defective products not backed by the company does not impress me.
I have this same error...
Feels like if I flashed the firmware with the previous version, it might be okay...it still works but no remote.
Can't rollback the firmware. Boo on Sling for not having a way to easily roll back firmware.
Bottom line...Is this something that Slingbox has done to get those of us whom have had a slingbox for over a year to buy a new box? If so who else wants to file a law suite?
Hi, I've also been having this problem as well. Also experienced 0 manufacturers listed under the select manufacturer and select model area. This is suspected by some update? Very annoying...I emailed customer support, so i will update this thread if they give any useful feedback (doubt it).
Seems pretty obvious to me that this is a problem/bug with their latest firmware...
I'm hoping the next release of the firmware may clear things up.
But also waiting to see if the iphone slingplayer gets approved..
My slingbox Pro of 18 months just bricked with all the same issues posted above (i.e. "This SlingBox was not originally designed to to be used in USA") Anyone been able to get these up and running again or do I have a new door stop.
I tried a full reset going back to the origional software and it still doesn't work. So I talked to the Geek Squad and found out that although they always try to push extended warrentys, they will not sell extended warrentys on Slingbox.
Sooooooo I'm going to give Sony's Location Free Base Station LF-V30 a try. I'll post the results soon
Feed up with the ShitSlinger...LOL
I'm on my second box already and I'm having the same problem in Canada. Started about a week ago. It doesn't matter what country I choose, apparently it wasn't designed to be used anywhere.
I think I'm going to return my Slingbox Pro-HD and SlingLink unit that I purchased today for $400+ bucks! I can't get past the Admin password error, and now after seeing these problems...I have a very different view of this product! I guess after paying restocking fees, I'll only get stuck with the iPhone slingplayer! When I registered this unit online, it would only allow me to enter Canada as the country. I live in Los Angeles!
I've been having the same problem with my Pro-HD for almost a year now, ever since I installed the SlingPlayer 2.0 beta. For a while, I could recover it by resetting to defaults and connecting with my laptop that still had the 1.5 version of the player, but that fix never lasted more than a few days, and it stopped working after I updated the slingbox firmware.
Looked all over the net a bunch of different times trying to find replacement IR codes or for 'missing remote', 'missing IR database', but never found anything useful until this thread today when I reset the slingbox again and noticed the 'not for in USA' message.
How come there is no moderator to help with questions? It seems our only recourse is to return these damn things!
This site is not ran by sling. Its made for members helping members.
If I can take a stab at it
Login to your sling account
https://slingaccounts.slingmedia.com/Accounting/Web/Account.html
It that info correct?
Then unistall your sling software. Reinstall it but to a different drive if you can
My guess is your profile is corrupt
look here
C:\ProgramData\Sling Media\SlingPlayer\2.0
SBprofile.xml
SMWIOConstants.xml

Not really! It lists the Slingbox as a Slingbox Pro (not Slingbox Pro-HD) and the Country as Canada!?!

Is there a way to delete my profile on a mac? C:\ looks like the windows version! If you don't know the mac, maybe I should install the windows version (as I'm running fusion)!
At any rate, thanks for responding!
remove the registered sling from you account via the website. there is a button called remove.
Uninstall the software from your mac. Reinstall it. Try using a different drive or even a usb flash drive.
What firmware is installed?
bryanod said: Yeah I am quite certian this will fix your issues
Better to use REVO UNINSTALLER to unstill the sling software.
Go to the REVOS advanced settings and let REVO delete all the windows registry entries then reload again.
This has worked for many of my freinds who had software player install issues.

If you just bought it call the sling tech support. They should give you free tech support if still in the 90 day warranty period.
US$400 for a sling PRO HD??? I have not bought any yet
