About a month ago while remote viewing my slingbox, the remote control was suddenly disabled.  I tried reseting, rebooting and upgrading the firmware on my SlingBox AV, but nothing fixed the issue.

Then I upgraded to the new SlingPlayer Beta and my problem was solved...for about a week.  Now whenever I reset my SlingBox and re-run the setup wizard I get the following error message when I set my Country as USA:

"This SlingBox was not originally designed to to be used in USA.  Click fix to changed the location or Contrinue to proceed anyway"

If I click fix and try another country, I get the same message for all available countries.  If I continue, the setup succeeds, by my original problem (disabled remote in the SlingPlayer) persists.

Please help!  College football season is in full swing and I'm dying with no SB at my tailgates!

Hardware Version: 1.34.1
Firmware Version: 1.3.36
Firmware Release Date: 06/03/2009

this is what I have

The only other info I could find was that. This was reported while the 2.0 Beta testing was going on. And seemed to be resolved with an update of the application. The post didn't say anything about FW. So maybe Matt or BC could check on this.
Just for the heck of it. I just went into the setup wizzard and I was able to access all the Devices in the hardware Lists. No error message.

I wonder if this could happen if you don't wait long enough for the Slingbox to re-boot after you do a FW upgrade?
I do remember the status bar sat there filled in for quite a while. Thinking the computer was locked up, But I left it alone and waited. It did clear and the update was succesful.

Well the software on the desktop has the same issue, the remote is grayed out. So either it's a firmware thing, or the software doesn't like the older hardware model. Time will tell at this point, whether Sling finds and implements the fix or some user does :)

As far as I know, the update went through on mine too, i remember is saying success. I didn't reboot it until much later when I decided to try and do a total reinstall.

Well. It looks like maybe 10 people have posted here with the same problem. 4 or so have reported it to Sling. It was reported in Beta testing. Maybe some how the old bug slipped back in to the code and only happens with Hardware Version: 1.34.1 But it has been reported to happen now with the Pro-HD. So who knows?
So unless sling uses the same excuse that they did with the speed crash issue. "Sorry. it must have slipped though the cracks". We hope it doesn't take 18 months to resolve it like that did..

Sorry I could be any more help.

Good luck to all of us.

I rolled my firmware backwards. before I did, I used a hex editor to change the date or version to a newer version. So when I started slingbox it would think it had the latest version. I installed the old version of slingplayer from my disk. ANd they didnt work.
I believe I still have the files if anyone wants to give it a shot, maybe another direction.

The news software won't run without a firmware update, when I got the new software it made my install the new firmware.

You can't select any remote/box. That's the problem. It says the box isn't made for use in the USA, therefor you can't select any specific cable box/tivor/dvr make.

I've done it all. I've installed it on a PC that never had the software. Trust me, the firmware has a bug that is screwing up older models it would seem. If you read up, it was apparently reported in testing.

So earlier today I did a full uninstall with do not save settings selected and created a new sling account. When I installed the player I was able to choose my comcast dvr and I no longer see the wrong country messages but the remote is still grayed out.

Great Chris,

Thats progress no? Try setting up a Comcast remote as its a old ir code

remember comcast uses the same remote for all its boxes.

1.  In the sling player goto sling setup assistant

2. select configure video sources and with the connection you use highlighted click next

Here select stand alone pvr your zip and comcast service. click next

3. here select comcast as the maker and dct2000 as the model . test these settings

When you look at your new remote it looks just like a comcast remote

Your remote is not stored in your firmware, however all remotes are.  So help me help you. Your remote is stored in your sling account delete it.  You might have a error on your sling where that remote is stored so lets trouble shoot that.

I have deleted my sling box off my account, however my account shouldn't even matter honestly. If you reset the slingbox and delete the software, the registering of a new account comes much later in the set up.

I just deleted my account, my software, etc

On the very first screen of reseting up the sling box , step 1, it says "This slingbox is not originally designed to be used in the USA."

Step 2 is creating a sling account. So before I even get to a sling account, I'm screwed.

THAT is the issue I believe. The firmware screwed something up. Because it says the box can't be used here, I cannot set up any cable/tivo/dvr box. It won't let me because it thinks there is a compatibility issue with the country I'm using the box in.

It's like trying to use a PAL DVD player in the US with US DVDs, if that makes any sense

July 19, 2009 11:59 PM

I totally see but the issue you must have is you have the UK install exe. Get to the same point Chris is at.

July 20, 2009 12:00 AM

I can't lol, I don't have the UK software! I don't know how we even got to that point :-\ Did bringing up pal confuse you?

July 20, 2009 12:27 AM

no I am not confused

dl the player again, uninstal, install the newly downloaded slingplayer. I am saying you had dl'ed the uk player on accident.

July 20, 2009 12:32 AM

I have deleted and downloaded it many times, it's the same result every time. I have downloaded on my Mac and it's a not go there too. I didn't download the wrong country software.
