About a month ago while remote viewing my slingbox, the remote control was suddenly disabled.  I tried reseting, rebooting and upgrading the firmware on my SlingBox AV, but nothing fixed the issue.

Then I upgraded to the new SlingPlayer Beta and my problem was solved...for about a week.  Now whenever I reset my SlingBox and re-run the setup wizard I get the following error message when I set my Country as USA:

"This SlingBox was not originally designed to to be used in USA.  Click fix to changed the location or Contrinue to proceed anyway"

If I click fix and try another country, I get the same message for all available countries.  If I continue, the setup succeeds, by my original problem (disabled remote in the SlingPlayer) persists.

Please help!  College football season is in full swing and I'm dying with no SB at my tailgates!

A side note, I don't know if this has anything to do with the issue, but when I upgraded my firmware last it was from my Mac and not my PC. Marcee clearly has a mac, anyone else with this issue . . . did you upgrade on a PC or a Mac?

I tried this, that and the other thing. Every cable has been reset, every program reinstalled, every country set as a default. The remote doesn't work anymore and they don't seem to care. Screw them. Time to get on with life. As of today my slingbox is a brick and I'm unchecking the "Email me when comments are added to this thread". Good luck everyone, I hope you find a solution. I'll find one on eBay and it won't be a Slingbox.

Now that I think about it, I bricked my box when I upgraded with the Mac.

So we might be getting somewhere lol, though it still goes back to an issue at Sling :)

Latest news is that the remote works fine (tho somewhat slow) when I connect via PC. But no luck with any mac. Looks like the problem is with Sling's latest release of Slingplayer for Mac combined with the Firmware upgrade. This sucks.

FYI

It doesnt matter what country you pick, it will always say it wasnt designed for that country. NONE of them work

Mine won't work on PC or my Mac. I've given up and will wait for a new firmware/software in hopes it will fix it.

Dustin, have you been able to get it to work on your home network at all? I was finding the issue confounding because it was working on my home network and not on an outside network. So obviously, for me, it wasn't the remote, the lighting, the A/V setup or the IR blaster. Might not be the same deal in your case.

And now that I know it works on a PC, it's obvious that my issue is a mac SlingPlayer problem. Now, the only other thing I can tell you is that the PC I tried it on has an older version of SlingPlayer. My guess is that the newer SlingPlayers combined with the newer firmware have bugs when combined with the older boxes.

I can stream video to my Mac and PC yes, I have not tried outside my home network yet. The problem is I can't set up my box (because of the USA error) so I have no control. It streams what channel is on the TV, I can't change it.

I decided to goof off with this again. I still have the firmware rolled back.

What I found today is, I connected a s-video cable and it would get me to the next step. Without the s-video cable I wasn't allowed to go past the the, "not USA supported" error. With the s-video I have the option to configure 4 inputs.
1) ??
2) s-video
3) composite
4) Coaxial/RF cable box

When I select the s-video every thing is fine (but there is no remote)
But if I select the coaxial (cable box) I lose communication and cant configure the SB for my receiver.

Interesting. I've always had mine hooked through Svideo, so I could always get through the setup process, past screen 1 (USA error). It gave me the option to fix (ie choose another country) or continue.

However I was stuck picking "uncontrollable device" as picking a cable box or DVR led me to the make/model page, and all I could pick there was "other" Then it wanted me to put in codes for my device, which I don't have :)

I can get my programming guide set up, but that's it. No remote still (cause the device isn't configureD)

I have always had mine connected via S-Video and always upgraded via PC. I still have this problem. I have downgraded the Sling Player, but the firmware would not downgrade....it said it was incompatible.

what firmware do you have. I am sure youve posted it, I am being lazy though. I wanna try and hex it to use.

I wishde I was better at hex editing, I would just edit the bin file to allow ALL countryies :)

I'm too lazy to look it up lol, but it's the latest one. I never rolled back (I looked in my directory but had no older firmwares to use anyways)

July 21, 2009 12:44 PM

The latest firmware is 1.2.12. That's what broke mine.

July 21, 2009 1:19 PM updated: July 21, 2009 1:19 PM

OK, I updated to the latest slingplayer. It allowed me to configure my video source, somewhat. But now I am stuck on the "other" option.

When I installed the new player and started it, it told me I needed to update my firmware. I pointed it to the modified .bin file and clicked ok. It gave me an error. It said it wasnt a firmware file. O clicked OK. And it allowed me to continue.

Now I still have to use the s-video input, and still no remote.

July 21, 2009 1:49 PM

I connected mine back to regular old AV, no Svideo. I still get the videofeed, but the USA error continues in setup and of course no remote :)

I think we are stuck until someone at Sling decides to fix this bug (if they even do).

I'm setting up my HAVA now :P

Let us know how you like the hava. For Chris to get past the USA issue leads me to think it might be fixable by you long before sling gets too it. I am at a loss as why I can't recreate it with the same device but I did try....

Thanks for the patch you did for me Bryanod.

Hows the new faster remote speeds?  I was happy to see a steady stream 1.8mb in China from your US based upload.

I am getting 3.5mb on remote in Shanghai off my fiber line in Taipei now. Cool

And you are getting a steady 3.7mb on remote stream in USA.... from same line

Thanks for that patch file you wrote for me Bryanod works a treat. Hows the new faster remote speeds?  I was happy to see a steady stream 1.8mb in China from your US based upload.
Remote speeds still not as fast as the sling but UDP 1.8mb 7100+ miles is a feat for sure. Thanks for showing me the tweak for the Hava the .reg file was cake.
