I have a Slingbox Solo that has been working perfectly since I first installed it.  Recently my Linksys router failed so I have replaced it with a new Linksys WAG160N.  Now I cannot access my Slingbox remotely.  It works fine on my home LAN but not over the internet.

I have entered the correct Port Forwarding settings on the new Router.  It now matches my settings on my old router.  Still no luck.  I have tried a reset on the Slingbox.

I have also tried uninstalling/reinstalling Slingplayer.  Again, still no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas?  Is there a way to test my router's port blocking or other security settings to see if it's blocking any incoming connections.

 Thanks in advance, Jason.

If you replaced your router, I'd recommend performing a factory reset of the Slingbox and redoing the entire setup. That usually solves these kinds of issues.

I was blind once and missed the enabled checkbox in the port forwarding list. Just entering the port numbers and ipaddress is not enough. Also make sure that the slingbox is still at the same ip address as listed in the port forwarding list. Thos are things I had to slap my head about.

Have double checked the port forwarding and the they are ticked.  I also tried a factory reset of the Slingbox by holding in the reset button on the back.  Completed the entire setup again but still no luck.  It has no problem connecting on the local LAN it just seems to be remotely that has issues.

Have also made sure it's configured for Remote Access, by running the Slingbox wizard.  When I run the SlingPlayer and go the the Slingbox properties it does bring up all the details of the Slingbox, IP address etc...  Does this mean I have remote connectivity?

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with my new router.  It has a fixed IP but I cannot ping it from the internet.  Browsing the web is fine.  I'm sure I used to be able to ping my old router's IP address.  Is there a way to some way to ping a particular port such as the 5001 Slingbox port from the Internet to see if my router is at least contactable from the Internet?

Thanks, Jason.

Have managed to check to see if the 5001 port is open remotely. Port can be contacted via the internet. Still can't get to Slingbox. A bit stumped now as to what to check next. Would appear that it is not my Router.

I have the WRT160N Linksys (US). Go to the Basic Setup page of your router and check your IP Address Range (ex; MY IP range is 192.168.1.100 to 149). Now go to your Applications and Gaming page and enter an address for your slingbox OUTSIDE of the IP range of your router (ex; MINE is: Slingbox 5001 5001 Both 192.168.1.150 check enabled). Next access your slingbox and go to your Slingbox Directory>Slingbox Properies>Information scroll down to LAN and verify that the IP Address shown is the SAME IP Address you assigned your router for Slingbox; IF NOT then make the changes in your Slingbox Settings page: click change; choose internet viewing, choose configure router manually and then enter the IP Address that you assigned your router(mine is 192.168.1.150). You should be able to remote view your slingbox. Good luck!

Thanks "girl interrupted" I have double checked my settings as you mentioned and they all appear ok. The IP address shown is the same as the one on the Linksys Port Forwarding page.
One thing that I did notice is that on the Information page, within the Slingbox properties page, it says "WAN access? No" and "Remote Configuration? Yes". Also within the LAN section is says "Port: 5001" but within the WAN section it says "Sling Server Port: 5678". Is this important?
Thanks, Jason.

Jason,

Set your slingbox back to factory settings.

See this link:

http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Linksys/WAG160N/SlingB...

Follow carefully and you should be able to sling remotely. Yes, WAN Access is necessary. Port 5678 is correct.

Good Luck!

Thanks again "girl interrupted". Reset the box again and followed the instructions. This time it worked! Yay!

Not sure what I was doing wrong last time!

Thanks, Jason.
