Never heard of that problem before. I'd call Slingmedia. I bet they have a solution.
hi, i ve been searching all over the internet, no one has the same problem. i guess this is my last chance
anyway, here is my problem:
everytime i try to do remote viewing i have to ask someone at home to reconfigurate the slingbox on my host computer, or it doesnt work. after its been activated from the one at home, i can view it remotely with no problem at all. im wondering if there is anyway i can save my configuration so that i dont have to ask someone to set it up everytime.
anyone can help me??
thanks in advance
chillyet,
Can you assign an IP address and port to your Slingbox in your router config? This would solve the problem.
What you need to do is assign the IP address to the Mac address of your Slingbox and then give that IP address a port # of your Slingbox address that you assigned it to. This should permanently fix the problem.

If that's the problem. Make sure you disable uPnP afterwards or else other devices on your network might reconfigure your router.

hi brandon
i think i did. i went to the network setup wizard and chose manual configuration. i just used the default ip address and port number. everything workouted fine after i did that. the problem is i have to do this every single time before i can watch it away from home. once the host computer is shut down, lets say i wanna watch it again the next day, i have to go through the setup wizard over again in order to watch it.
dunno wats goin on. or is there another way to assign the ip address?
thanks anyway
It really does sound like your router is losing the port forwarding mapping. You've manually set the SB IP, but did you also manually setup the port forwarding? That isn't clear. And turn off UPnP on the router.

thanks a lot guys, problem solved.
it turned out to be my router had UPnP enabled, simply diabled it.
thanks again
Hi, May I please ask here, should I also turn off UPnP on my router? I thought I had to have that on so that the Slingbox could configure itself on my network. I also use Netgear Powerline Adapters and thought they also used UPnP. Everything is now set up, using the automatic remote viewing setup in Setup Assistant; so should I now disable UPnP?
Many thanks
Personally I always turn off UPnP and configure things manually, but I'm a geek.

I did try to turn off UPnP but then my Slingplayer could not connect to my Slingbox, either at home or on the internet (I use my Treo phone to check internet playing) so I turned it back on and instantly as is well. I'm not having any problems with remote viewing so I guess I will just leave it on.
