If the 600kbps is consistent, this is the lower limit for streaming at 640x240 (OPT+ADVANCED)
I on average get about 600kbps, my throughput wavers a bit at tops out at 600, but I have no issues with the 320x240 setting, nice and smooth, and very fast button-push recovery.
Regarding MAC addressing, yeah you probably would need to give them this info. Be careful to copy this off the outside box when you get the slingcatcher - I don't see it anywhere on the device itself. By default it's set to try and get an IP Address automatically (DHCP) so if it works, you'll know.
I have my slingbox solo connected to my cable box in my bedroom at home.
I sling the content to my laptop in my dorm room at college, and always seem to get 600kbps streaming bitrate at my dorm.
If I get a Slingacatcher and connect it to my TV in my dorm, how will the quality be given the streaming rate i am getting on my laptop? Will the quality be affected?
I guess I'm not sure what kind of streaming bitrate one has to get through Slingplayer for Slingcatcher to work effectively in that locaiton....
Also, on a side note, when I connected my Xbox 360 to Xbox live at my dorm room, I had to give the school my MAC address of it so I could play. Am I going to have to do the same for Slingcatcher or will it work out OK?
You said "this is the lower limit for streaming at 640x240 (OPT+ADVANCED)."
What does this mean?
We have a 27" Tube TV in our room....just trying to figure out how the quality would be.
Thanks for your help!
Remote slingboxes stream by default at 320x240. On a tube this setting looks like regular cable to me.
When viewing a Slingbox feed the SlingCatcher has an option to bump the remote Slingbox into 640x240 resolution, increasing quality, but also bandwidth requirements.
In short, out of the box, your feed will look good.
