How do you use the Dell IR to control SlingPlayer? Did you remap some keys? If yes, you can remap one of the key to close and start SlingPlayer. I have a Hauppauge IR remote and I program a key to Alt-F4 which closes the active program. I also program a button to Ctrl-Esc which brings up the Start menu. With the arrow keys and enter. I can then start any program I want using the remote.
Hi Slingers.
We just figured out that we can use the Dell RC6 IR Windows media center remote control that came with our XPS420. To control many of the features of SlingPlayer 2.0. Change channels with the Number keys, one channel up one channel down, Volume up and down, mute.
But the most important one is missing. Player on and off button does not work.
When we press the Remote Contol's power on and off button. This puts the computer to sleep and wakes it back up.
This would be fine. But, when we press the power button on the remote to put the computer to sleep.
Slingplayer then times out I guess becuae the network connection is turned off. So when we wake the computer back up with the hand remote's power button. Sling Player then comes back up with a Network error displaeyd with a "OK" to continue box.
This would be fine. If when this message poped up and hit "OK" All I would have to do is press the "enter" button on the remote control. Slingplayer would try to connect again. But the error window just goes away and you have to use the mouse to select the connect options again.
So now to my question?
Does anyonw know how to change the functions on the remote? Is there any kind of INI file it uses?
All I would have to do is change the Media center ON/OFF key to turn Slingplayer on/off or (start/exit would be better.
Or is there any universal remote that can control, that can be programmed to handle windows programs?
I hope this is clear. What I am asking for?
Thank You for your Ideas.

AH! Re-map That's the term I was trying to figure out.
That's what I am trying to figure out how to do with the DelL RC6 IR remote.
No .I did not have to re-map anything. The Dell RC6 Windows media Remote works just fine with the Sling Player 2.0. Other than starting up and Ending the program. Since I have Slingplayer to always sign on with the same user and password. It connects to my slingbox automaticaly after double click the icon.
What I tried to do is, Just Put the Slingplayer shortcut in the Startup folder. Then when it came out of sleep mode. Slingplayer would start up connect to my slingbox and start playing. The I could just change channels with the hand remote.
Shutting down is the problem.
I was also thinking about using the built in Windows task scheduler in order to turn on Slingplayer at a certain time and then shut it down at a certain time.
This would be pretty cool.
In Dells XPS420 BIOS AO6 version. You can set it to turn the computer on at a specific time.
So I have the computer turn it's self on at say 5PM (Talk about lazy) connect to the Slingbox and start watching the News and at 6 PM turn it's self off. Just use the remote to change channels and adjust volume. Pretty cool I think.
So if someone out there has the instructions on how to re-map the Dell RC6 IR hand held remote. Please Pleas pass them along. There must be some sort of INI or info file htat can be edited I hope. I just need to remap one or 2 keys.
Thankyou
