I'm wondering about the same thing myself. All of my Comcast HD channels are blank ("Assign a network to view Program Information"). I can't see any way to make assignments in the Guide.
In the previous version of Sling Player I could assign networks to Clear QAM (Received Channels) e.g 4.1 was assigned to NBC. The icons would appear correctly in the channel list and the guide data was also correct. However, after I logging out/in of my sling account all of the saved channel assignments did not come back. After spending hours figuring out the digital channel assignments I was mortified to find I had lost them all upon re-logging in.
Now after installing the Sling Player 2.0.2.500 I no longer see an option to assign networks to clear clam channels at all. Having a functional channel list and guide for the built in slingbox tuner would be an invaluable feature to me as the cable set top box is continuously in use by other family members.
Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? Am I the only one having this issue?
Any help appreciated.
Me Four.
I've also had times where the guide does not even come up.. The received channels will come up blank. I can go to all channels and get the guide. Back to received channels, and nothing. Then shut down SlingPlayer and bring back up, and viola, they are there.
Very buggy software. I am finding lots of bugs
Me 5, have the same problem not having a way to assign the network, and not getting guide data. Very annoying/frustrating.
Where is Sling Media when you need them?!
Got a slingbox hd-pro today and am annoyed at this too. Can't save any logos/channel names for any channels. We have Comcast and all the expanded basic channels are on clear QAM. This is the only reason I bought a new slingbox (Comcast is doing analog reclamation).
Don't buy a slingbox hd to watch QAM until this is fixed (unless you want to type up a list of the channel mappings and carry it with you).
Channel gude I don't care about, just want to be able to know which channel is which.
so is it me or is there no way to set "favorite" channels any more for 1 click access.
The problem is worse than this. It's not about the inconvenience of not knowing the channel mappings, that I could deal with. It appears that you can't tune to certain QAM channels even if they are unencrypted. I think this is based on how the Slingbox HD scans utilizing the regional Zap2It guide. For example, CNBC is on 83.1 over my cable. I know it's there in the clear because I can tune to it on my TV (no cable box). Slingbox HD doesn't find the channel and there appears to be no way to manually tune to a specific QAM channel that is not on the list of scanned channels. Perhaps this is based on a deal between Sling and Comcast to make it impossible to receive certain unencrypted channels on a Slingbox HD. Dang. Buyer beware!
I really don't think it scans according to the guide for the exact reason this thread addresses. The channels aren't assigned in the guide. Why it's not scanning some channels is the question. A manual add/remove feature would be nice too. Seems like the early player versions with the Classic had that.
Slinging Tivo HD, Tivo S2, and OTA from a Pro HD, Tivo HD from a Pro, Tivo HD from a Solo, and Humax DRT800 from a Classic to iPhone, Dell Inspiron 1520 with Sprint EVDO, and a SlingCatcher over Mi-Connection cable with 2Mbps upload.
I do have some channels different on my slingbox and TV so search around a bit... it still may be there.
If I remember, I did a Scan and was missing some channels. When I used the remote to manually switch to a channel I knew was there (say 4.1), it came in. But this was a while ago, so maybe I am remembering wrong.
I have a problem during he day where I think heat is screwing up the cable (and causing a bad connection somewhere). At night, some QAM channels come in; during they day they cut in and out. So if I scanned during the day, they were not there. But I think I was still able to manually switch to them.

Well it may not be the guide that's influencing it, but I note that you have to enter a zip code and select a provider before it will scan, so I don't think it is just scanning every single channel. In any case, if someone can tell me how to get it to tune it to a specific channel, scanning or no scanning, I'd be grateful.
I really think the zip code and provider you enter before a scan is just so it knows which guide to try and match-up with the channels your box finds.
So, to manually switch to a channel, regardless of whether it found it or not? I thought you just pull up the remote in Sling Player (ie the generic one, since you are using the built in tuner) and punch in the numbers for the channel. But I just tried to switch to channel 5.1 (a channel I do not get) and it didn't work. So I guess it does need to find it during the scan.
Try a totally different zip code and re-scan and see if it finds the same channels as a test. That will tell you if it is using the guide.
I really think the issue is that the ASTC tuner in the slingbox is not very sensitive (hence my issue of not getting good reception during the day) but works after sundown.

Much happier now... I can manually assign networks to QAM channels with the current version just downloaded today... until Comcast starts scrambling all the channels and makes me us a DTA.
