My Slingbox PRO-HD works fine with my computer-based Slingplayers and my Slingplayer Mobile.  However, when my Slingcatcher connects to the same Slingbox PRO-HD, after about ten minutes the Slingbox locks up, picture freezes, and will not function until I do a hard slingbox re-boot.  Is there some problem of compatibility between slingcatcher and slingbox PRO-HD?

I'm having the same issue. However, it just started yesterday when I hooked up my slingcatcher to a new HDTV and updated the catcher software

I have the same equipment and did not have this problem until I updated the catcher software two days ago.

There definitely seems to be a problem with the new SlingCatcher firmware. I have horrible video/audio stuttering issues now that were not present before. Rebooting the 'catcher helps for a while. But the problem seems to be limited to the SlingCatcher because Sling desktop apps running on computers using exactly the same wired network connection all work flawlessly.

Are you using a PRO or PRO-HD.  I'm using a PRO and am not seeing this stuttering.  So I'm thinking it's a catcher issue with the PRO-HD hardware.

What happens if you lower the rsolution used by the catcher?

So do we know if something is being done by Sling to correct this problem? Looks like problem is limited to Slingcatcher with Slingbox PRO-HD.

I also got the same problem with the new firmware updated on my slingcatcher. It also connects to a slingbox HD-PRO.

I had a painful exchange with support yesterday. Their response, it's a slingcatcher problem (which they cannot recreate on their test boxes) they don't care to fix it. They will not support the PRO-HD freeze issue which is under warranty, because it is possible to watch on the PC. I suggest we as a community contact the retailer which sold us our equipment to remind Sling to do the right thing for support.

Since this appears to be an issue with the most recent slingcatcher software upgrade. Does anyone know how to install a previous (stable) version of slingcatcher firmware? I tried factory reset from menu (which doesn't actually factory reset the box), then held the reset button which causes a system recovery and FORCED software update. Either way doesn't get the job done. Thoughts on this might help us all to find a workable solution until Sling can create a perm fix.

Here's a good one too. I got sent RMA for all 3 of my sling catchers in reguards to the Remote Control fast forward problem.
Now lets see. We use them every day almost 24/7. We really didn't notice the fast forward problem until it was posted here. So it's not really a serious problem for us. Maybe for others it is. They couldn't just send us some sort of script file that we could load into the catcher via a USB key or NAS and download the old Firmware. they are telling us we have to send them back for repair (re-furb)
So we are going to live with it. Yes I know this is bad. But like I posted other places. It does what we want it to.
But it's almost like Sling is doing a denial-of-service attack (DoS attack) on their own products with the these firmware upgrades.
In other words. Do the Firmware upgrade. It then breaks something. Then they tell you to ship the product back at your own cost. The service for that product is then lost for one or 2 weeks and chances are you get a re-furb product back.
All I can say is in my 55 years. I have never seen a company work this way.
Sling must be working fine and selling product since they are still in Business. But it's really amazing to us that they still are.

Those of you with the remote fast forward problem. Sling will tell you to send the catcher back to them if you call in.

Worst customer service ever! They are obviously not customer focused and must not be relying on their current customer's to help sell their products. I wonder if the CEO knows that this issue is going on and how the "customer support" is responding to the customers?

I purchased my equipment the end of January this year and of course, I was told that I could purchase an extended warranty otherwise they will not do anything to help me solve the issue.

Can anyone tell me if the Sling Catcher really does give a better picture on the TV rather than on a computer screen? If so, what number was the old software that worked properly (ie not freezing all the time? How do I update the software? Do I put it on a memory stick and plug the stick on or is it not possible to do this? I am considering getting one for my television.

Hope it works properly. If anyone can help I would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

I have 2 Slingcatchers both with HW # 10001, SW 1.0.0.64 (Apparently the most recent) and had very similar issues but only with the Slingbox HD Pro. I also have two Slingboxes, another being the Slingbox Classic.

On the Slingbox Classic (which I have had for 4 years now), both of the Slingcatchers work fine. Even when I put the HD Pro on the same or lower resolution as the Classic, it is still jumpy and will eventually lock up, requiring a power cycle. Apparently, it is still taking control commands even while locked up, but just not sending the video over the network, because after it had locked up the 3rd time, I switched to a different input to try to unlock it (which it didn't), but when I had someone reset it, it had changed to the new input, even though the video/audio locked up.

I pulled up the HD Pro on the Slingplayer on my laptop, and no stutters or lockups, so I think it can be diagnosed to a SLingcatcher problem.

Since I am in London and the Slingboxes are in the US, this is a real PITA. Hopefully we will have some resolution with a new firmware rev.

I'm experiencing the same issue with the SlingCatch / Slingbox PRO-HD setup. Has anyone had any luck correcting either via rolling back the SlingCatcher firmware or some other way?

July 12, 2009 3:34 PM

WOW, this is really annoying! My brand new slingcatcher and Slingbox PRO-HD are experiencing the same problem. I can only watch Slingplayer for about 3 minutes before the Slingcatcher picture freezes. I can get the picture back by going to the menu, disconnecting, and reconnecting. Very frustrating, is there any temporary fix for this yet?

Hey, SCM. I started this thread, and I can tell you how I fixed it. I updated my Slingcatcher with the latest software (or firmware) about a month ago. After that, no more freeze-ups. I hope that works for you.

The catcher is updated with the latest firmware, though. I guess I should contact Sling?

Thanks!

Ihave the latest firmware on both, and I could never keep the Slingbox Pro / SlingCatcher combination from locking up. I did notice that with the "OPT" key pressed, the speed would normally stay quite high, but then the bar would drop to almost nothing, and then it locks up.

I am going to change the slingbox pro to a S-Video setup (which is how I have the classic), and see if maybe it is the component output that is causing it to lock up.

What were your results?  I'm still suffering from this problem.  I'm just going to end up hooking a PC into the TV and outputting Slingcatcher to it.

I will find out next week. I upgraded firmware on the Slingbox HD Pro and also added an additional S-Video out to it. I am in the US and the slingcatcher is in London, so will be able to see if those changes fixed anything.

July 25, 2009 11:56 AM

I am having the exact same issues with the catcher and PRO HD. Every few minutes the screen will freeze for a second, then turn very pixelated, and then clear just in time for another freeze, and the cycle just keeps repeating itself. Both the catcher and pro HD are running updated firmware.

fyi, this is remote viewing with the pro hd in Phoenix and the catcher in Austin. I have ZERO problems with Slingplayer on my computer so it is clearly the slingcatcher.

I appear to finally have this fixed. When I updated the firmware on the Slingbox PRO HD (which just became available about mid July), and was able to test it out this week back in London. I have been pretty much streaming continuously without a problem - even HD - getting about 2-2.3 MB/s. A couple of times the connection was broken, but that was over a several day period which you might expect on a transatlantic stream, but it did not lock up the PRO HD and require a power reset. On both occasions, I was able just to reinitialize the connection remotely without a problem.
