Hey i tried to downgrade with the old slingplayer the Gumbochief's one
and it says 90 min to do it so i canceled....
anyone tried too ??
Installing now....
You might need to restart your box for the software update to work.
For the last 10 minutes I was getting weird issues, so I restarted my box and player and got the update notice.
My little experiment got me thinking about the encoding option in SlingPlayer.
I have always used Auto setting for the local connection since my local connection is always > 3 mbps, I figured Slingbox would choose the best quality.
I was playing with the encoding options this afternoon, I have 1280x720 or 1920x540 resolutions to choose from. SlingPlayer window is set to 1720x1120 on my 1920x1200 monitor. To my eyes, 1280x720 looked sharper than 1920x540. Does this make sense?
I have some screen captures, I can post them here if anyone is interested (3MB each)
I should probably try rolling back the firmware to see any difference, but I am too lazy to figure out how to do that now.
yukit,
Don't bother rolling back the firmware. Just set the encoding to what looks best to you. The automatic setting will always err on the side of not causing a skipping or intermittent viewing problem in lieu of what is the best looking video resolution.
Pick the one that looks best to you and if you get any skipping or video problems then scale down from there.

I just tried, and it works fine. They have a speed cap on free d/l.
Takes about 8 min

Yeah 8 min ?????? but when tried it says 80 - 90 min and its very slow !!!!!!!!!!
Did it says the same to you and then upload the fw in 8 min ???????
Or did it say 8 min since the beggining in your downgrade.
Thanks

I'm sorry. I misunderstood. I thought you meant the download link from sendspace was slow.
I have used this player to downgrade both my SlingHD and SlingPro (sd) about 5 times.
Usually when a friend of mine has upgraded it, "by mistake".
Are you doing it over wireless? Maybe that is your problem.

I rebooted the slingbox and also the router.... everything
with no success.... it allways say 90 min to complete the update.
so i dont do it.
I will have to wait for another update from slingbox crazy ah ????
the image is worst more and more... i dont know what else to try...
Thanks anyway.
It took me about 45min to upgrade my firmware. I'm a daredevil an did it remotely though. I'm not sure about how long it would take to do it locally.
Can any of you who has the old firmware try to set the Video Resolution option to 1280*720, and then open the Statistics window (Shift + Alt + i), and see what the video height is?
Ampro:
It all depends on what your STB is outputting.
If the STB is outputting 1080i, and Splayer is set for 1280*720, the reported video height is 544 (not 540 for some reason).
OTOH, if the STB outputs 720p, and Splayer is set for 1280*720, then the reported video height is 720 - as you might expect.
This is true with old f/w 1.2.100 and with new f/w 1.3.80.
My tests were run with 25fps (UK) frame rates, not 30fps (US) frame rates
every time i get an update notice i wait and see what everyone is saying about it...its funny that the upgrades are usually for something stupid like "Online Slingbox registration" or "Show / Hide player controls with one-click toggle" .... who the #$@% cares about that nonsense? how about a better video codec or some kind of solution for framerate stabilization....you know, like something that actually makes the viewing experience better?
my rule of thumb is, if its working, dont try to "fix" it ... think i'll wait until mine isnt working before updating or "upgrading"

Update is an update i dont see any problem trying and if you dont feel fine just roll back
simple and easy.
Its not a big deal.... there are a lot of ways to roll back but i think and update is an update !!
thanks...obvious that you dont understand my meaning...i have better things to do with my time than to fight with useless updates and rolling back...the point is once you upgrade, you cant always just go back, it overwrites the old version, then you have to find the old version and reinstall...its not a driver that you can just 'roll back'...
anyway, in the meantime, you enjoy that 'update'
tom papadakos said: anyway, werent you the one having problems with it?
All the Firmwares comes with you slingplayer installer so if you have the old one there you go.....
or just search the web and thats it , simple. No problems at all with my setup
seems that update reduced the quality of SD channels but it is not , its the same , rather
it improves the quality of HD channels.
