Hi, I can't find any info on this and trying to contact customer support is impossible so I thought I'd ask. I recently changed from Time Warner to Dish Network. The latest slingbox av updates include software support for the vip 612. However when choosing either 'Echostar' or 'Dish Network' and 'vip 612' from the set up menu, nothing works, no 'power off' in the test, and nothing in the slingbox remote control works (the remote control shown by slingbox is a vip 612 remote, but nothing works on it) The latest sling software, unlike the old software, does not allow alternative codes and simply basically says 'If you have a Vip 612 this will work, if it doesn't work it's your fault and you have chosen the wrong box in the menu' and offers no further help whatsoever. This is a slingbox fault , not mine, and there seems to be no solution offered by Slingbox. Any ideas? Thanks Gary
ah yes I saw that but couldn't work out the 'change remote code to 1' bit. Now that I have it works great so thanks very much (it seems weird that the vip 612 code won't work and that I have to use vip 722 but there we are)
Glad you got it working. Don't know why the 612 code wouldn't work and the 722 did but kudos to you for figuring it out. :) This may help others in their problems.
...Follow Me on Twitter... Why is it after I push 1 for English I still can't understand the person on the other end?...
Ok, so the VIP 612 is listed on Slingplayer in the setup menu but we can't use it. What the duece?!
Aren't Sling and Dish the same company?
Thanks for the info though. I'm going to try this when I get home. I've been wondering why it won't work.
I found this in the user manual. I guess sling is assuming your using the IR feature on your receiver, even though the receiver comes defaulted with UHF enabled. If you enable your IR on your dish receiver then the VIP 612 codes should work. But UHF is better anyway so I'd stick with the 722 option, unless CODE 1 on your box is being used by your neighbor.
Confused yet? Sorry if I rambled. I didn't know how else to word it. Maybe someone can cleanup what I was trying to say.
"Changing the Remote Control from UHF Pro to IR
Your receiver accepts both UHF and IR (Infrared) commands. The remote control only
outputs UHF Pro signals but can be changed to transmit IR commands by switching the
key at the bottom. This is also useful for programming an after-market universal learning
remote control to operate your receiver. Note that when the remote control is in IR mode,
you will need to use it from the same room to operate the receiver because IR signals do
not travel through walls or over great distances."
