Everything was working fine for the last 2 yrs or so.  A few days ago I tried to watch remotely and I was not able to connect.  The remote on my Slingplayer was grayed out.  If I turned my satellite on directly I could see it playing in the Slingplayer but was not able to control it from the Slingplayer remote.  I decided to reset the video source and now I can't set it back up.  There is no option for my Dish Receiver and if I choose "other" it asks for a Custom Code and I don't know what that is.  Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found the code for the remote on the dish website, but all that's offered for a model is "other" and the remote codes won't work with it.

Have the same problem with my Pro... was working find but now I cannot set up the box via the setup assistant.  Sing won't help unless I pay for their customer service even though it was probably their software upgrade which messed up my slingbox.

I am on Directv.

I am using an older UltimateTV box (RCA) I have 2 of them and one is working fine with my Slingbox solo... the pro was working for years until just now. It is a RCA DWD490RE. The setup assistant does not show any models to choose from... I even tried using an older slinplayer version to see if that would work.

OK, I've uploaded a Custom Remote for the RCA DWD490RE at http://www.hifi-remote.com/forums/dload.php?action=file&file_id=7468

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the upload.. I downloaded the files and followed the instructions but the setup assistant could not find the code. I tried a few times to make sure that it was typed correctly etc. I even tried to set it up using an older version of player and it skipped right over the set up for a device (strange). On my setup assistant, I do not get any choices besides "other"... I wonder if this is the problem.

Even though it could not find the code, I did try go through the whole setup and of course it did not work.

What do you mean by 'could not find the code'. Please tell me EXACTLY what happened.

On the setup assistant, I chose the standalone DVR option. On the next screen, the only choice was for video sources was Other. I chose other, the next screen I verified my cable/sat provider. On the next screen, remote control setup, I selected custom (the only choice I had), put in the code V2010, hit test remote power and error message came up with "Custom code not found, Please try a different code"

OK, I am a bit confused here as what you say does not apply to the PC SlingPlayer V2.0 I am using. Are you using a Mac ? If so I can't help on that aspect you will have to hope a Mac user can chime in, but at some point it MUST be asking you for a Manufacturer and Model ?

Anyway, I know of only 3 reasons for the error message to occur.

1. It is not seeing the BIN files, so make sure you definitely have the V2010_RV.BIN and V2010_PL.BIN in the right \SBAV\ folder.

2. You are not typing in the code correctly so make sure it is EXACTLY V2010 (not v2010)

3. On just one occasion I am aware of a user getting this error with a specific device and SLingbox, so it's a bit unlikely.

The files are in the right location (for both versions of my sling player).
I have checked the typing of the code. I did put the code in incorrectly (v2010 instead of V2010) on purpose to see what would happen and it gave me a different error message. "remote code is not valid. Please try a different code"

I have been equally confused as to why the setup assistant is not working properly.

I am using Windows XP
Slingplayer 2.0.4.521
I upgraded the firmware on my slingbox Pro

As stated, I get video and audio but not a remote.

When I use setup assistant, it does not give me any other DVR model options. Also, I tested it with my DVD player and the same thing happens...no DVD models are available to choose from at setup.

Thinking that maybe my latest update to Slingplayer was messed up. I used an older version of Sling player and did not have any luck there either.

I do have another Slingbox (solo) which is hooked up and running fine. It is also controlling a RCA DWD-490RE unit. Therefore, the problem has to be with the latest firmware update to the Slingbox Pro.

Odd. The behaviour of Setup Assistant does vary a bit by country (I have boxes in the USA and the UK), but when I have selected the appropriate input (composite or S-video) and pressed Next then the next screen asks me for the type of device, and in the USA, my ZIP code and provider. Press Next and in both cases I am asked for Manufacturer and Model Number.

So it does look as though something is awry. I don't want to worry you, but I recall someone else having a similar problem and we suggested he reset his Slingbox and after he did that he kept getting the message "This box does not support the USA" (or any other country he tried) and the box was bricked.

So I won't recommend a reset :-) But I don't have any other suggestions.

Sorry

I am having the same issue (box not supported in USA). I tried to reset the box but of course I still have the problem of it not being supported. So, can the box be fixed or it it terminal? Did he ever get his box working?

As far as I know it's terminal. It's a known problem, so depending on when you bought it, you might get Slingmedia to get you new one.

There a lots of discussions about this, check these two out

Thanks for your help..

I called Sling and was able to get a waiver for the customer service call cost and they will be shipping a new Slingbox Pro this week. Obviously, they have had problems with this box recently. What I did find out is that IR blaster for my box was some how messed up and thinking it was a UK box even though the box was a US unit. The IR blaster version was 10 and should have been 2. There is no way to fix it from my end so that is why they are replacing the box.

If anyone is having the same problem, they need to look at the IR blaster version to see if a fix is even feasible locally.

Well done, that is encouraging news for other people with the same problem.

Same issue occurred with my 4 year old Slingbox Pro. The virtual remote disappeared, says my Slingbox wasn't made for the USA. I went on Sling Support Chat and after they had me check the version of the IR Blaster and reset the box, the offered me free RMA and no charge for the support chat. I guess this is a terminal issue related to the IR Blaster firmware. Overall, no issue with the support.

I am curious what triggered it though. I just switched Blackberry's to the BB Tour. While technically its not supported, threads here say loading down version Blackberry Bold software works. I did that and it worked...could that have triggered this IR issue?

Anyway, this is the second time I've received an out of warranty service RMA replacement due to their poor quality software and firmware. I am frustrated but its still the only thing I know that does what it does.

I have no idea what messed up the box. I think it is one of their firmware updates. It probably did not differentiate between the PAL and NTSC boxes. I recently added Slingplayer mobile to my HTC Tilt2 but I already had the problem with the Pro. Since they are so ready to exchange the boxes, I imagine they know that this is a problem due to something on their side. I am just glad to be getting it fixed. :) If I still have problems in the future, I will have to look at other options such as HAVA.

Thanks for all the great info. Just got off the phone with Sling support and they are going to send me a new unit. They tried to charge me the $29.99 service fee but once it was obvious the unit could not be configured they refunded the charge. The message about the unit not being supported in the US appeared. Hopefully, this won't be the start of many RMA's.
