I have a mac and I installed vmware to run windows and then the windows sling client to connect to my Slingbox HD - I still dont get HD video even at over 2000KBPS what am I doing wrong?
Even if I select manual optimization the only option I have is 1920X540 if I let it do it automatically, I get QVGA res. The slingbox is up to date and the player is latest version.

here's the setup

Imac 2.4 GHZ
snow leopard
VMWARE 3.0
windows XP
Latest sling player
Sling player HD with latest firmware.

has anyone tied installing slingplayer in vmware and got HD video streaming? if so, what did you do?

I've tried to get Sling to work in Vmware in many different ways, but I have a feeling that VMware Fusion doesn't implement VMR, which is the engine used to render the video. Even if the option is unchecked in the slingplayer software, the other video engine doesn't render properly, either, in a virtual environment. Thus, the picture always looks blocky or pixelated. I've tried it on Windows XP and on Windows 7, and the result is always the same. My only solution is to boot directly into Windows using BootCamp. If anyone has success getting quality streaming, I'd love to hear how it was done.

I've tried it using bootcamp, and running windows natively and I still can't get hd. Do you get hd when running in bootcamp? If so, did you do anything special ?

maybe NA9D will chime in here, I think he has done some of the most extensive testing on using proHD to a mac via virtualization techiques, and knowledge of the various codecs and video protocols and what is even POSSIBLE with the mac using BC or VM or other.

NA9D, the bat signal is up.
