Same problem "over here"!
What is wrong with the newest firmware- a/o player-update?
At home my "Solo" works just fine...though since the updates I have to reboot the box once a week, not so funny! BUT with "Internet-Looking" (abroad) the video became choppy and the audio very poor!
What can I do to get it work again? How do I downgrade everything again?
I have been slinging my TV from the east coast to the west coast for over 3 months. I have a PRO-HD on the east coast and a SlingCatcher on the west coastg. Eerything has been awesome. Perfect picture, no lag. I could not be happier, until.....
Yesterday I turned on my SlingPlayer on my laptop for the first time in a long time. When I did I was told there was a Slingbox update. Something told me to ignore it since everything has been working so well. But against my first instinct I let it install. Every since I did that everything has gone to hell. The picture on my Slingcatcher is barely watchable. I get constant lag and after watching TV for about 30 minutes everything stops and I have to turn the SlingCatcher off and then back on.
I cannot beleive this happened. I can't believe an update would screw everything up so badly. The current version i am on now is 1.3.170. I dont remember what it was before but is there any way I can roll back this last update and put on the old one that I had???? PLEASE tell me there is.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Is there any other way to fix my problems.
BTW, I've tested both Internet connections and they are both working perfectly. It HAS TO be this stupid update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had the same problem, but with the former firmware. When I updated to the latest one, it resolved it. So, I don't know if it is firmware specific, but rather the slingbox getting messed up upon updating itself and it requires a clean refresh to correct...
Thank You for a fast answer,
but what do You mean with "requires a clean refresh"? Is it to push the reset buttom on the back of the "Solo-box" and begin from scratch?
Maybe the updated "Player"(abroad!) is the problem now? I still don`t know!
What I meant was that the Slingbox may just need some clean install. I don't believe there's any way to do this without waiting for the next firmware to come out.
What the heck did the firmware even do? Why was it released? What a bunch of bull.
Day 2 and still no watchable TV.
One thing I noticed. When I go into the firmware update screen there is an Advanced button. When I click it, it allows me to load a firmware file to the Slingbox. Can I obtain the previous firware version file and just load that? Will that get me back to the way I was?
If not, then what is that advanced button for? And if so, where can I obtain the firware file to upload?
Thanks again for any help.
Update...I called Sling support. They want $30 to troublshoot my problem. LOL. $30??? For a problem they caused? So I asked if they don't fix my problem do I get my $30 back. They said if they can't fix my problem then its a hardware problem. If its a hardware problem then I need to pay them an additional $70 and they will send me a replacement (refurbished) Slingbox.
Are you kidding me? So basically they will never give you the $30 back. They'll tell you its a hardware problem, even if it isn't, and squeeze $70 more out of you.
Oh, and they confirmed you cannot roll back a firmware update. And that its "by design". Of course it is. Becasue if you could roll it back and fix your problem then they would never get an extra $30/$100 out of everyone.
I wonder if the CEO of Sling is related to the CEO of USAir? Seems like they follow the same buisness model. What a shame.
Hej, did You try to connect with "Watch TV Online"?
Look here ---> http://support.slingbox.com/go/downloads-windows
It`s working for me here at home, but away from home I don`t know yet!
Ps.: Today I had to reboot (power off/on) my "Solo" again, why????????
As I can see aren`t we the only ones with this "up"date-problem!

I've got my SlingCatcher to work. This soultion is rather ridiculous and I have not idea how/why it worked. And what's more is that its actually working better than before.
I went into the SlingCather options and changed my "Audio" setting from "Stereo" to "Right Channel". I can tell no difference in the audio when I watch TV and the amazing thing is that when I did then my streaming rate went from 350-400 Kbps to 1100-1500 Kbps. Its been so steady at that rate I have been able to increase by video resolution to 640X480. It previously was always at 320X240. If I switch the audio back to Stereo my bandwdith drops back to 350-400 and the picture quality sucks.
I have no idea why this is happening and I don't know where I am getting all of this bandwidth. I've had the SlingCatcher for about 3 months and its always been around 400 Kbps with some spikes up to 700 Kbps. For the last 2 days the bandwidth has been steady at 1100+ and most times its up around 1500-1600 Kbps.
The only problem is that usually after about 2 hours of watching TV the picture just freezes. I usually have to power off the SLingcatcher and power it back on and everything is fine. A pain but doable for now.
What I heard from my friend in Spain today is, that the "Watch TV Online" solution works much better (first of all audio) than the new slingplayer (vers.2.0.4.521)!
So, there is still a little hope for the next update???
