HI, just to let someone else know, that if your Solo started to act weird after last fw update, which mine did, and it in the end lost all network connectivity (only power light litten) then plz be in contact with your nearest Sling SUpport Unit. I did that and they said, even though the warranty has ended 3-4 months ago they will send me a replacement unit for free.

Thank you very much Sling Media, great Customer Service!

I have exactly the same problem. My box is nearly 2 years old. I rang them and they said they'll send me a new box straight away, with no problems at all. Very impressed! I wonder if Slingmedia botched a software update for the Solo.

Below is the message I got.

Since the Solo went down, so too have the Classic and the ProHD. I know it's not an internet problem as my security cameras are broadcasting live thru a non Slingbox direct connection from the same router.

This is very annoying as the three slingboxes are locked down in a equipment room 2,700 miles a way and unaccessible to anyone until I get back in a couple of weeks.

Is it just me or is Slingbox having more and more of these kinds of problems?

If it isn't reliable, it's just another paper weight.

Get your act together, Slingbox. No auto updates unless there is positive response from the box to accept.

Dear CUSTOMER,

Thank you for contacting Sling Media Technical Support.

Please try the following steps.

Update the firmware on your Slingbox SOLO

If the above steps didn't resolve the issue with your Slingbox SOLO, there's a good chance that updating the firmware on the Slingbox will resolve the issue.

You may be asking yourself, "But if the Slingbox isn't showing up on the network, how can I update the firmware?"

The answer is simple - connect the Slingbox directly to your computer. We have outlined the steps below - they are pretty simple and once completed, your Slingbox SOLO should show up on your network.

1. Plug one end of an Ethernet cable to the Network port on your Slingbox SOLO.

2. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on your computer.

3. Plug the Slingbox SOLO power adapter into an electrical outlet.

4. Hold down the RESET button on the back of the Slingbox SOLO for about 5 seconds (until the lights on the front start blinking).

5. Wait about 2 minutes while the Slingbox tries to get an IP address. When the network light starts blinking again, you are ready to go.

6. On your computer, open up the SlingPlayer application. (Download the latest version at http://downloads.slingmedia.com.)

7. If the SlingPlayer doesn't open directly into the Setup Wizard, select the Slingbox (called My Slingbox) from the Slingbox Directory and click watch.

From here, go through the Setup Wizard (or Setup Assistant if you're on a Mac) and update the firmware on the Slingbox. Once you have passed the firmware update stage, you can click the Cancel button to exit out of the setup process.

Now disconnect the Slingbox SOLO from your computer and power. Reconnect it to your router, like you had it before we started this firmware update process, and plug it back in to the electrical outlet. After it starts up, the Network light should stop blinking and you should be good to go. Open up SlingPlayer on your computer again and complete the setup process.

Regards,

Actually, in the end replacing the Slingbox with a new one didnt fix my problem. But when I contacted their support again, they sent me a new powersupply, and that did the trick. I though had to send back the slingbox they sent me as replacement. Anyway, great service SlingmMedia

Yeah, the same with me. I'm still waiting for the PSU to arrive.

December 13, 2009 3:31 AM

After traveling 2,700 miles to take a look at the issue, it's obvious I have a bad power supply.

When I interchange the supply between the Solo and the Pro HD, the one with the suspect supply fails and the other comes on line.

What's interesting is the two tried and true old Slingbox Classics keep working away without a problem, as do my two SlingCatchers.

We'll see just how good Slingbox is when it comes to replacing faulty power supplies.

Yep, it was the PSU. Oh well, hopefully i'll get another 2 years out of this one :)

They are sending me a new PSU. They obviously recognize there is an ongoing issue with these units.

My new PSU arrived the other day.

I am having the same problem with a SOLO which is only 14 months old. I ordered a new PSU and that did not fix the issue. I contacted support and they want to charge me for support that MAY fix the unit. I came across this posting and tried it, but, the unit will not reset - no matter how long I hold the reset button, it will not reset.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks

Adding my story to this thread. Same symptoms here. After trouble shooting for weeks with replaced SB using old cord (because they didn't send a new one with the new box) I ordered a new PC and voila, both the old and the new SB are working. Sorry that it isn't working for djone. Instead of support fee, buy the replacement/repair SB for $99, which gives you the box + service and you can return for refund if it doesn't work.

SB SOLO w composite inputs to Sci Atl 8300HD - HDMI + audio cables to Sharp Equos LC32G4U HD TV box - Wireless Apple Express/Apple Extreme router. Time Warner cable. Mac Laptops.
