Newbie - moving to China but wants Sky TV... What sling product ?

Right here is the situation, I am trying to learn what I can about the various 'sling' products that are available but it is a bit of a mine field and I was hoping for some expert help from you guys. Basically I currently live in the UK and will be moving to Beijing in a couple of months. Me and the family can not bear the prospect of Chinese TV for the next couple of years. We would like to be able to watch Sky television on our TV in China. To enable us to do this I am going to get broadband and Sky installed at my fathers house (he currently has neither) to send the signal....... Which product(s) do I require to satisfy my needs, I was thinking the Slingcatcher.... what do you guys think ? Does the catcher come with the equipment needed for the send adn receive end or do i need 2 'slings' ? I would prefer not to have to receive the signal via my PC and have to then link a cable from the PC to the TV as this would mean the PC would have to be on most of the...

Viewing Slingbox Solo at Work!

Sorry I've looked through the crazy volume of threads and haven't been able to find an answer to what is probably a simple question. I just got my slingbox last night and have installed everything on my home computer and it works perfectly. What I want to do is be able to watch my slingbox on my work computer (totally separate computer at my office, separate city). I can't seem to find out what to do in order to accomplish this. Anyone?

Looking into Hava.

I do lots of reading in HAVA forum and look at youtube videos about hava over past couple of day. After many people say they have problem with Slingplayer 2.0 and Sling not provide FW roll back. I read many posts here say people like features of Hava box. I think this come down to "Better the devil you know then devil you don't" . I think only HAVA feature I really like is The Multicast feature. I like feature set of HAVA Titanium HD WIFI but I read many posts that people have problem with plugs on back and bad video quality becuase poor connection on back. Why HAVA not use same plugs they use on HAVA Wireless HD. (RCA) I think is silly. No QAM tuner also. I hope maybe Hava next box have better plugs and QAM tuner. The only thing I read that really impress me was about the person who post about BOD problem. HAVA support say is .001% of owners have problem. But they reply and look into this anyway and find to be driver issue and fix. Slingmedia was the same 2 year ago when I first buy my slingbox. Come think about....

6 months in Germany

Hello all, I will be moving in January with my family of 5 to Germany for 6 months (maybe longer). I have a Comcast DVR and cable modem at home. Most likely I will have a high speed connection in Germany to view the stream from the slingbox. Does anyone have a configuration to recommend? I'm not sure from reading the FAQ's if the HD option is worth it because you won't actually be streaming in 720 or 1080 right? Also, how good is the picture if you play the video onto a TV with and s-video cable?

Sling lacking behind soon

Sling came out with a revolutionary product, welcome by the wider public, and for once possitive feedback from every data magazine available, they revolutionised IPTV. However, although they startet the path, does not make them bulletproof in the long run. Competition is a nightmare for businesses, esspecially for electronic innovations, which can be copied overnight. Slingbox is now limited to only a few features. but competing sites are already developing enhanced products which is now able to compete with Slingbox. The only reason for Slingbox popularity is, its clever marketing strategy, and its unike design. A few features i like to see: Continually add remote support for as many product possible on a regular basis,e.g. Dvico tvix boxes, most reliable and expensive DVR Media Box are still not supportet. Enable Recording features, although to avoid being sued Slingmedia might want to allow add on modules, so third party can add extra features, without slingbox getting into trouble. Allow files located on the local network to be streamed. with support of all major codecs and filters. Enable twin view. But these features are properly never gona be avaiable, even if it increase sales by 50% :-)

How to increase the speed of your home network?

Quick question on why my home network speed is so slow (comparatively). I have been using the Slingbox Classic for years. I have Fios (Wireless Router Model MI424WR, 20MB down, 5MB up) and a recent Apple Macbook Pro. The Slingbox is connected via ethernet directly to the router. I want to upgrade to the Pro HD and have read reviews talking about 5-8+ Mbps speeds within home networks. My Slingplayer speed (on both Windows XP and the latest version of OSX) averages around 1800kbps. When I run a speed test at speedtest.net, my 20 down/5 up is confirmed. I have an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station (that I use for a networked drive) hooked up to the Router. Any ideas why my speeds are so slow? Thanks for the help

Capturing video stream from slingbox

This might have been discussed before but just wanted to see if there are better options to capturing video from the slingbox. I purchased At large Recorder and it works fine but with some issues like: - No video for the first 1 minute of recording, audio is fine. - Always get video freeze and drops in the recording and sometimes during crucial parts of the video I'm recording (touchdown play, or sitcom joke, etc). Tech support said it is my internet connection but that is not true. I can watch my slingbox for hours without drops or video / audio issues. - The format is in ASF which can't be easily converted (always get audio video sync issues unless using WM encoder first) I tried to use mreply but it is giving me problems as well. My browser crashes when ever I try to stop the recording or share the recording. I still can play the recording locally but I can't convert it to any other format. I tried to capture the stream using the WM encoder method but most of the time it dose not work and the audio is not good. Anything else should I try? Any...

Sling users can now watch their TV without downloading Software!

Im sure a lot of you know this, but sling.com now allows slingbox users to watch tv over their browser with out downloading any software. I found this out last week on gizmodo.com, and abslutly LOVE IT!. Now i can watch tv at a friends, or at work without having admin rights or taking up a large amount of space......I would recommend to the sling team that they send a reminder email to all current slingbox owners so they know that this AMAZING feature is now avialiable. I know a lot of people who work and DO NOT have admin rights so they CANNOT download the slingplayer.........the web app is as good as the 2.0 slingplayer!!!
