router help!!!

Hi there, I hope someone can please help because I have tried everything! I am sure I may have missed something and any help is very much appreciated.... I have recently purchased a Netgear DGN2000 Wireless broadband router and a Slingbox Pro. I have tried to connect my Slingbox firstly into my Netgear DGN2000 router and connect via this but my Netgear DGN2000 router does not see my Slingbox. I can however see and control my Slingbox if I connect this directly into my laptop via ethernet. I have checked my Netgear DGN2000 router and this is working allowing me to connect to the internet wirelessly and via ethernet. When I follow the Slingbox Network assistant help I input the IP address: 169.254.255.254 in the Router Setup Inbound Services Send To Lan and I get an IP Address Illegal! message Please help as I would to connect my Slingbox to my netgear router so I can view Slingbox remotely. I am totally clueless regarding port forwarding etc and have read lots about port 5001 and this I have set this up correctly as per your instructions but I don't know how to configure anything else or where to begin...... I...

Would it be possible to connect the slingbox by ethernet cable to a wireless bridge (an old G Netgear router) instead of connecting to directly to the router (N)? Thanks. Any help will be appreciated.

having two ethernet switches....

I've got an ethernet switch upstairs (netgear) connected to a wireless router, a vonage voip system, Hava's titanium HD wi-fi and a 50 ft Cat 5 ethernet cable that goes through the walls downstairs connected to a slingcatcher. I'm using the slingcatcher for a slingbox that's connected in the U.K. I'm watching it with a Sony Bravia XBR9 internet capable TV and just recently Netflix activated their streaming service for the Bravia. I've only got one ethernet cable that goes to the slingcatcher, but would need another ethernet switch to start using the internet capabilities of the TV along with the slingcatcher without having to take one cable out all the time. The question is how stable is having two ethernet switches to the rest of the network? I'd hate for the cable modem / router ( Motorola SBG900 ) to crash with so much activity going on upstairs to affect what's going on downstairs. I know one way to find out is just buy another ethernet switch, but I don't know if another relatively inexpensive netgear ethernet switch will suffice or if I should be looking at something more expensive or a better brand. Has anyone pushed their hardware...

remote location router cuts stream in half - vpn restores it- why?

Hello All, I am in China and without my router, I stream at about 650 kbps which is comparable to what others I know have. When I connect my router (I need it for my Slingcatcher), my stream drops to half that rate. When I use a vpn, with the router still hooked up, the stream goes back up. What is wrong? Is it my connection? My router? Please help! Michael

Can't get Sling recognised by my servers DHCP server.

I have Windows Server 2003 SBS Standard Edition. I can't get the DHCP server to assign an IP address to the Sling Solo. DHCP on both routers connected to the server are disabled (required by the operating system). Any suggestions? I figured it out by reading some of the other forums. It was simply that I had to limit the scope of addresses to less than all of the addresses, then create a reservation for the next available address and assign it to the mac address of the slingbox.

Help! I have done all I could to get the Slingbox up and running, but still cannot successfully set up internet viewing. So far: Tried automatic setup, failed Set up port forwarding as described, failed Called and PAID Sling to help, after 3 calls and 1 hr on the phone/remote control of my PC, failed Called Verizon to confirm my IP was public, it was Called Verizon to confirm no ports blocked other than 25/80, confirmed tried ports 443/5001/5002, all failed When I go to canyouseeme.org, NO ports could be seen, connection refused on all. Can someone help direct me to the item to correct, or the throat to choke to get this thing working? Thanks! Ian

ok im about sick of messing with the stuff but a custmer of mine has this big bill gates house and she wants to work meracle with networking. there is no cat5 jacks anywhere in the house. she wants a slingbox pro HD hooked up to DTV box and she also has a slingcather for one of her living rooms. she also has one for her office at a remote location. ok first off the router and internet head is in a room far on one side of the house and the dish reciver is in another room way on the other side of the house on the second floor.. we tryed useing the slinglink turbos.. well needless to say thay wouldnt connect to each unless they were in the same room. im guessing because of the house wiring.. what else can i do to get intronet to these things? i dont think wireless will cut it. she will be providing 2 locations with a/v and one being remote. so i dont think wireless G will hold up to that. and as far as they are apart they prolly wouldnt get a good signal anyway.. im just about out of...

Networking options

SlinGurus, Quick question about networking options. I just purchased a slingbox solo off of Amazon. One of the reviewers was stating that Slingbox is not a "wireless" device and said you had to purchase a Slingbox single port "electrial outlet" network adapter. Here's my question: wouldn't a standard Linksys network adapter work just the same? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, IKN
