remote viewing issues in Iraq

Hello. I bought a slingbox solo for my husband who is serving overseas in Iraq. He recently got internet in his room and is trying to use the slingbox and is having trouble because of slow internet speeds. Now, today when he tried it there was poor weather so that may be affecting the internet. He gets his internet through satelite and he is using it during high volume time with the rest of his post. We have high speed cable internet here in the US with upload speeds around 385kbps (will upgrading this help?). Today he said he was getting between 40-75kbps, which resulted in a poor picture with long delay. I guess my question is, is there a way to make the slingbox work with such slow internet speed on his end? I imagine once the weather clears up his internet speeds will improve a little but what is the absolute minimum kbps on his end for a viewable picture? I've read that changing the encoding settings manually will improve the consistency of the picture, but will obviously make the picture more fuzzy. But that's ok. A consistent poor quality picture is better than nothing! What should his...

Remote viewing issues

Hello all, I have a bit of a tricky question. I have a remotely located slingbox. It has a static ip assigned to it. Anyone local to that network can access the unit fine. Other remote areas can access the unit fine. My remote area cannot. I know this points to an issue on my end most likely, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what. I have tried 2 different computers, one vista, one XP. both have internet access. I control the cisco router at this location, so I removed all ACL limitations and rebooted the computers. I tried vpning into another network and still couldn't get this to work. I disabled all firewalls, including the windows firewall on both systems, making them as open as possible to fix this. The error I get is as follows: Error: 0x8007274c The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are trying to watch is on, set up for remote viewing, and not blocked by firewall/NAT settings. [Advanced users: the error code is 0x8007274c.] Constant: err-wsaetimedout --> Looking around, this seems to be a cacth-all error. I thought the problem was Vista at first, but my XP machine...

Remote viewing problems

Hi, I'm completely new to the Slingbox experience, bought my first one last week, so I was wondering if somebody could give me some advice please? I've used the setup assistant to configure the Slingbox, and i've added a port forwarding rule on my router. I've also given the slingbox a fixed IP on my lan so I don't have any problems if I have to reboot it, but I'm having problems viewing remotely. I can connect to it ok and watch TV for approx 10 minutes, but then the connection drops with the following error: Error: 0x923400dc Context: 0 Operation 3 The operation failed because of invalid state. I've tried connecting using the Finder Id and direct connection and it behaves the same way, has anyone seen this problem before? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Jon

Help! I have done all I could to get the Slingbox up and running, but still cannot successfully set up internet viewing. So far: Tried automatic setup, failed Set up port forwarding as described, failed Called and PAID Sling to help, after 3 calls and 1 hr on the phone/remote control of my PC, failed Called Verizon to confirm my IP was public, it was Called Verizon to confirm no ports blocked other than 25/80, confirmed tried ports 443/5001/5002, all failed When I go to canyouseeme.org, NO ports could be seen, connection refused on all. Can someone help direct me to the item to correct, or the throat to choke to get this thing working? Thanks! Ian

setup assistant problem with WORKING slingbox

on 3 computers, the slingbox-hd works PERFECTLY, even remotely. i have a new hard drive on my HP dv5t and i installed windows 7, 64-bit home. (slingbox worked fine w/ that laptop both with vista x64 and the test versions of windows 7 x64). now, when i go to setup this latest software onto the windows 7 operating system, i get the following error: YOU MUST HAVE AN INTERNET CONNECTION TO PROCEED. I am ALREADY ON the internet! i can not log in either. i do NOT have a proxy server anywhere. internet explorer and firefox work fine. i am not running 3rd party virus protection. turning the windows firewall on/off makes no difference. i've added it as an allowed *.exe program. i've uninstalled / reinstalled. possibly related - google chrome also hangs up during installations, so i'm guessing the final version of windows 6 x64 must have something wrong w/ it. Thanks in advance, i know i can't be alone.

Slingbox can't communicate

Hi all, I'm new to the slingbox . I have it set up and I have no problem connecting at home but when I'm away from my house it won't work. The remote comes up but while optimizing it states it can not communicate with my slingbox. I tried the slingbox right before I left home and it worked. Hours later it does not work away from home. What do I need to change, adjust , fix? Thanks Tony

Fluctuating upload speeds crashes catcher and player ?

I'm planning to take my sling catcher to my house in Costa Rica to stream me some hockey games. Before leaving i tested the setup on my home net and a remote network. What i have: Slingbox Solo (purchased this week). SlingCatcher (purchased this week). D-Link DIR-625 routers on both sides. ISP info: Oricom.ca (Bell reseller basically), UP:600 Kbps / DOWN:1.3 Mbps. Both home and remote testing locations are on the exact same ISP and speed rating . Tested it with speedtest.net. Setup: Bell ExpressVU --> SlingBox --> DIR-625(fwd:5001) ------- Oricom.ca dsl (600 Kbps up) --> DIR-625(fwd:5001) ->SlingCatcher + SlingPlayer 2.0 on PC Result & Problem: Hooked up everything at home and tested it on my home local net with slingplayer 2.0 on my laptop. Everything works perfectly at home. I then activated remote viewing on the box and went to another house to test it. Upon powering up, the catcher checked for updates and downloaded one. This alone shows the box has access to the internet. Connected the catcher to my slingaccount/box and started streaming. Everything was working well for about 2 min then BAM! the image froze. After rebooting the catcher, it was never able to connect to...
