Connections with structured wiring

I'd like to watch TV while at my computer and I bought the Solo. My house has wiring for ethernet, cable, phone etc. at 4 different points with the main hub in the basement. Right now my computer is connected to the router which is also wireless for around the house. The TV I want to connect to the Solo, in theory, has ethernet going to the hub "backwards" which has another ethernet cable to the computer. Perhaps I need to patch the cable going to the hub (from the TV) directly? to I'm not sure what? - Thanks!

WRT350N or DIR-655

I just got a Slingbox Pro HD and have it currently working with my Linksys WRT54G. I want to upgrade to a draft N router and after searching through the forum, it appears that the only way to get one of my two choices to work is to set it up manually. Since the posts weren't fairly recent and they have new software out, I figured I'd ask. From just router reviews, it appears the D-Link has less problems and has faster throughput. But which one is easier to set up with the Slignbox: Linksys WRT350N or D-Link DIR-655? Thanks, Jeff

Slinging without a TV?

i live in houston, and my parents live in cleveland. i want to watch cleveland sports, but it's not available on any cable or pay per channel service available in houston (insert cleveland joke here). i want to connect a slingbox to a cable outlet in an unused room of my parents' house in cleveland so that they don't even know it's there and don't have to deal with it (they're in their 70's and trying to get them to understand slinging may cause either their or my death). my question: can i install the slingbox solo directly into the cable outlet in that room in cleveland and watch shows in houston, if the slingbox is not connected to either a cable box or a tv (provided it's on the network, of course)?

Interested in Slingbox, absolute confusion, please help!

I am interesting in purchasing a slingbox relatively soon, but I have no clue what to purchase or how to set it up. For starters, I want to be able to have a slingbox network within my household for the office computer downstairs, my laptop upstairs, my TV upstairs (same room as laptop), and the TV in the living room. Our router is located in the office downstairs. I connect to the router wirelessly for my laptop. We also have a digital cable service with Time Warner. (There is a digital cable box in my bedroom upstairs, as well as in the living room.) Basically, how do I get around doing this? What do I need to purchase, and how would I set it up? When multiple devices are connected to the network, do they all have to view the same exact channel? Suggestions will be appreciated, thanks.

Will two simultaneous slingboxs streaming off same router affect video quality?

I have a slingbox HD Pro. It's working via cable modem going through a modem. I'm contemplating picking up a second slingbox (probably a solo, AV or classic) for the sole purpose of controling a second cable DVR in the house, to help an senior citizen in the house, record programs on the DVR and play them back. However, I'm concerned that if I've got two slingboxes, both going through the same router off the one cable modem, STREAMING AT THE SAME TIME, I'm going to compromise the quality of my first (and primary Slingbox HD Pro box) when reviewing it remotely from another part of the country. In other words, if I'm watching my slingbox pro HD controlling my home cablebox dvr #1 from across the country, and another familiy member is controlling the second slingbox, hooked up to the second cablebox DVR in the house (but running off the same router and cable modem connection), I'm going to be compromising the quality of the video stream off first box). Is this true? Will I compromise the quality of the streaming if two boxes are being controlled at the same time? Thanks.

Power and Network Light On but No Connection

Hello, I just got the Slingbox SB200-100. I got home hooked everything up and everything seemed to work properly. Both lights are red but on. When I pooped the CD and downloaded the Slingplayer from the website and try to look for the box it is saying there is no box on the network. I do have the Slingbox plugged into my Linksys SD2008 which is plug and play. This is then in turn plugged into my Linksys RVS4000. All firewalls/anti virus are diabled on my computer I have held the reset but for 30 seconds and a uninstalled and reinstalled the Slingplayer Can anyone please help?

Sling Media, fix your boxes Re: Subnets

I've wonded why someone on another subnet could not connect to a slingbox on a different subnet. I installed a packet analizer on a hub with the Slingbox and this is what I see; 192.168.0.26 = Computer on other subnet 192.168.1.236 = Static IP of Slingbox 192.168.0.26 sends ping request to 192.168.1.236 192.168.1.236 sends an ARP Broadcast message looking for "who has 192.168.0.26" This goes on, over and over. Maybe my networking theory is screwed up but an ARP Broadcast can/should only be sent to machines on the same subnet. The Slingbox has the correct netmask of 255.255.255.0. The only way, I can see this working is if a bridge was used between the subnets but we use routing (routing is the "normal" method to cut down on traffic between subnets). The typical reply to an ARP Broadcast message is for the device to give it's HW address but that is useless information when you get above the data-link layer. Am I screwed up or does Sling Media need to go back to school?

My network setup is netgear router nr 1 (slingbox connected here) <---> netgear router nr2 <---> my pc there are no ethernet ports available in the nr 2 router is there a way to make the slingbox work connection through router nr 2 and acces the slingbox on the lan in router nr 1 , or does it have to be on the same lan? if it has to be on the same lan, is there then a way to make the second router act as just a switch or hub?
