router help!!!

Hi there, I hope someone can please help because I have tried everything! I am sure I may have missed something and any help is very much appreciated.... I have recently purchased a Netgear DGN2000 Wireless broadband router and a Slingbox Pro. I have tried to connect my Slingbox firstly into my Netgear DGN2000 router and connect via this but my Netgear DGN2000 router does not see my Slingbox. I can however see and control my Slingbox if I connect this directly into my laptop via ethernet. I have checked my Netgear DGN2000 router and this is working allowing me to connect to the internet wirelessly and via ethernet. When I follow the Slingbox Network assistant help I input the IP address: 169.254.255.254 in the Router Setup Inbound Services Send To Lan and I get an IP Address Illegal! message Please help as I would to connect my Slingbox to my netgear router so I can view Slingbox remotely. I am totally clueless regarding port forwarding etc and have read lots about port 5001 and this I have set this up correctly as per your instructions but I don't know how to configure anything else or where to begin...... I...

Would it be possible to connect the slingbox by ethernet cable to a wireless bridge (an old G Netgear router) instead of connecting to directly to the router (N)? Thanks. Any help will be appreciated.

So..i have been trying to fix my slingbox for a few days now. I am currently using a slingbox pro connected to a directtv box that is connected with one of those linksys things that sends the internet throught the power outlet. ON the other end, the ethernet is connected to an airport extreme N. I cant seem to find the slingbox on my network. i tried portforwarding and this is what i did in the airport utility... public udp & tcp ports:5001 private UDP&TCP ports:5001 i am not to good with the port stuff so detailed answers would be greatly appreciated. also, both my power and network lights are on and everycord is connected. It recently started acting up when we switched form Cable to DSL. once again i thank anyone who can help me at all! :)

remote viewing issues in Iraq

Hello. I bought a slingbox solo for my husband who is serving overseas in Iraq. He recently got internet in his room and is trying to use the slingbox and is having trouble because of slow internet speeds. Now, today when he tried it there was poor weather so that may be affecting the internet. He gets his internet through satelite and he is using it during high volume time with the rest of his post. We have high speed cable internet here in the US with upload speeds around 385kbps (will upgrading this help?). Today he said he was getting between 40-75kbps, which resulted in a poor picture with long delay. I guess my question is, is there a way to make the slingbox work with such slow internet speed on his end? I imagine once the weather clears up his internet speeds will improve a little but what is the absolute minimum kbps on his end for a viewable picture? I've read that changing the encoding settings manually will improve the consistency of the picture, but will obviously make the picture more fuzzy. But that's ok. A consistent poor quality picture is better than nothing! What should his...

having two ethernet switches....

I've got an ethernet switch upstairs (netgear) connected to a wireless router, a vonage voip system, Hava's titanium HD wi-fi and a 50 ft Cat 5 ethernet cable that goes through the walls downstairs connected to a slingcatcher. I'm using the slingcatcher for a slingbox that's connected in the U.K. I'm watching it with a Sony Bravia XBR9 internet capable TV and just recently Netflix activated their streaming service for the Bravia. I've only got one ethernet cable that goes to the slingcatcher, but would need another ethernet switch to start using the internet capabilities of the TV along with the slingcatcher without having to take one cable out all the time. The question is how stable is having two ethernet switches to the rest of the network? I'd hate for the cable modem / router ( Motorola SBG900 ) to crash with so much activity going on upstairs to affect what's going on downstairs. I know one way to find out is just buy another ethernet switch, but I don't know if another relatively inexpensive netgear ethernet switch will suffice or if I should be looking at something more expensive or a better brand. Has anyone pushed their hardware...

Remote viewing issues

Hello all, I have a bit of a tricky question. I have a remotely located slingbox. It has a static ip assigned to it. Anyone local to that network can access the unit fine. Other remote areas can access the unit fine. My remote area cannot. I know this points to an issue on my end most likely, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what. I have tried 2 different computers, one vista, one XP. both have internet access. I control the cisco router at this location, so I removed all ACL limitations and rebooted the computers. I tried vpning into another network and still couldn't get this to work. I disabled all firewalls, including the windows firewall on both systems, making them as open as possible to fix this. The error I get is as follows: Error: 0x8007274c The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are trying to watch is on, set up for remote viewing, and not blocked by firewall/NAT settings. [Advanced users: the error code is 0x8007274c.] Constant: err-wsaetimedout --> Looking around, this seems to be a cacth-all error. I thought the problem was Vista at first, but my XP machine...

My Slingbox Solo keeps resetting itself after a few seconds of slinging. Initially there is a connection (and a decent one too) and I can view and watch a TV channel and then it freezes and loses connection. The error message I get is: The Slingbox has reset the connection, which disconnected SlingPlayer. [Advanced users: the error code is 0x923400dc.] The dlink DIR-655 router log Acrobat N: Wireless system with MAC address XXXXXXXXXX disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication I have tried viewing both via the web and PC version of the Slingplayer and I also tried using a different router but in all cases get the same behaviour. The router seems OK i.e. I can ping the Slingbox and I made sure that he port forwarding is set up correctly. I also exchanged the power adapter (it is a universal one but has the same output as teh original one i.e. 5V and 4.0A). I also reset the Slingbox (holding the reset button for 20 sec), connected it directly to my PC and also noticed that the connection dropped while trying to configure it. I successfully configured it after a few attempts. (Prior to that I also tried to configure...

Is it my connection? My router? Please help! Michael
