Slingbox A/V: Problems with Scientific Atlantic 8300 HD to Slingbox and HDTV

Hi, here's how I set this up. I have the SA8300 (cable box) outputs going to my HD TV via an HDMI cable and Optical Audio out. I have also used the Composite outs to go to the Slingbox. So the cable box has two outputs connected. I didn't know if that would work, but when I tested it it did. But what I found out is if I turn off the HDTV I'll get this error message from the cable box on my Slingbox viewer: "Your TV does not allow display of this program through the DVI input source. Please choose another TV source." Which is kind of odd since when I'm running slingbox only, it's not really going through the DVI at all. Two solutions fix it on my computer: 1) Leaving the HDTV on 2) unplugging the HDMI cable from the cable box Both of these are not very convenient. I don't want to waste electricity or have to change cables. I also think this might work which I haven't tried 3) hook my HDTV up via composite cables Which I would rather not do to keep my HDMI for better quality. So if anyone has any...

Hi, I was an early adopter of the Slingbox AV (US version) and have been using it in UK with a Sky+ box for more than a year quite happily. However I'm having to move from Sky+ to BT Vision but do not have a clue as to what code to use for this box. Has anyone on the forums had any luck with this yet? Thanks, Lee

Hi, I've got a SB A/V on a 192.168.1.x network the SB obtained the DHCP ip of .203 My macbook pro obtained ip .202 now when i run the slingplayer setup utility.. it says can't find any slingboxes on the network. when i cancel out of the setup assistant, and go to the slingbox menu in slingplayer and down to get info.. it will allow me to connect to the sb via entering in ip addres and port 5001. i can connect to the sb in this way on my lan, however when i'm outside the lan.. i can't even connect via ip address of my router's wan ip. (with portforwarding set up correctly.) i'd like to be able to set a static ip for the sb however being as the setup utility doesn't find the sb on the local lan.. it won't let me get to network settings. anyone have any ideas? it used to work a year or so ago.. without any problems.. i've even tried resetting the sb with no change in symptoms.

What is the deal here? Ever since I upgraded to 2.0 the picure is lousey and it freezes after a couple of minutes. Every time. The real kicker is that I can view a sling box in one home with a bad analog connection and it doesnt freeze on me, but when I try to hookup to my home (which uses digital) from a remote location its the one that freezes up on me. So it cant be the router that I currently use for remote viewing because I can see at least one sling box with any freezing. Anybody have any ideas. Both slingbox locations have all the updates. I really like the new features, now it it would only give me a decent picture without freezing.

Hello, I am having a doozy of a time setting up my slingbox to work remotely. I am able to view it from home on my local network but not away. This is what I have tried: 1. I allowed the slingbox to automatically be setup through the automatic configuration tool. No go. 2. I set it up manually. Initially I kept the 192.68.1.249 IP but I did not see it in my dHCP table, so I changed it to .105 and still did not see it in my DHCP table. I tried to connect remotely - no go. 3. I reset my slingbox and went through the automatic setup. Success - I could now see the IP in my DHCP table (.103) but when I went to change the name of the box AND also the IP inside the configuration menu, I could no longer see the slingbox in my DHCP table. Why I had to change the IP was because in my DHCP table it was listed as .103 but in the sling itself, it says its IP address was .255. I wouldn't have changed anything but when I went to setup the port forwarding (which by the...

I just contacted Sling support about this and they've given up. I have a Macbook, a 2Wire 1000HW router/modem, and Slingbox AV. Support took control of my computer, checked every possible setting, and said THEY can get remote viewing, but I haven't been able to from 3 different remote locations, work, Starbucks, and another Wi-fi locale. They finally said I should contact Apple to see if there's a setting on my computer I need to change. I haven't yet, but doubt Apple has any answers. Maybe I should unplug everything and start from scratch, but that's a last resort. Any ideas from the sling community? Thanks in advance.

Firmware 1.2.9 upgrade freezes slingbox

So, I just downloaded the new software for the slingbox on a remote computer, firmware version 1.2.9 and slingplayer version 2.0.0.465. I had not updated for a couple of months, but my slingbox worked perfectly before this point. Immediately after the upgrade and firmware install, my remote player is freezing every 1-3 minutes. I can 'rewind' with the new feature set, and it will play until the freeze point, but then it will always stop again. If i restart the player, it usually freezes again even faster than the last time. I've heard stories about heat and router settings and all that...but it was fine when I tested it before the upgrade, and now it is not fine. Must be buggy firmware???

So after having this setup working for nearly a year I'm having an unusual problem. My Slingbox is connected to my parents FIOS router with a wireless bridge which has been working great. Yesterday for no particular reason the Slingbox stopped connecting to the router. Supposedly the network light is still on, but it doesn't appear on the router config, and hasn't been assigned an IP address. I have a Tivo also connected via the wireless bridge which is working correctly and has an IP address, so I don't think that is likely the problem. I'm halfway across the world in Eastern Europe at the moment, so I have to rely on my technically challenged parents to troubleshoot the problem. Any ideas to get this thing going again? Thanks, Will

I am kind of wondering about this. In France I have DSL with a Netgear router and the speed always tops out at 380 Kbps. Within the last month I brought bring my laptop back to the states and connect from Comcast in Washington DC, Comcast in McHenry Ill and Time Warnerr Cable in Wisconinsin, and AT & T DSL in Wisconsin. Always the speed tops out at 380 kbps and stays there. Oh I get some variances but the top speed is always no more than 380 Kbps. Since I have traveled around to so many places and watched my Slingbox from so many places why does the top speed always remain at capping out at 380 Kbps? Is is something in my laptop? The Slingbox is in my daughters house and rund on Cox Cable. It is a cable connection so the speed from her end should be good.

Up until today, the Slingbox AV worked perfectly-it is hard-wired to the Comcast router in New Hampshire, no wireless there. I am in Italy, and use the same NETGEAR wirelss ADSL modem I have used since we got here, but now the stream lasts for anywhere between 3-7 minutes, and then freezes (KBPS goes to 0.) We have tried unpluging both the Slingbox as well as the router it is attached to-no change. I thought perhaps it was my Router, but I then tried utilizing my neighbor's to connect-same problem. I have also noticed that when it is streaming, if I go to change channels I get horrible audible static, at which point I break the connection, reconnect and it is fine, at least for those couple of minutes. I have NO idea what could have changed that would apply to 2 different Routers (mine and the neighbors-also we are with different providers!)and not be fixed by rebooting the slingbox and the router it is directly attached it. Any suggestions?
