POSSIBLE SOLUTION FOR USERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED REDUCED SLINGBOX STREAMING SPEEDS

Does your Slingbox start out fine and shoot up to your normal top streaming speed and then after about five minutes it drops down to 88kpbs ~110kbps for no apparent reason? I, too, suffered the same dilemma and I was able to find a fix for my Slingbox and I am now streaming constantly without any problems. I have a Slingbox Pro and there is no guarantee that what I did will work for you and whichever Slingbox you have. However, I originally posted my work-around fix in the Slingbox Pro forum and other members with other Slingbox models have found my post and have fixed their Slingboxes and are back to streaming constantly as well. To date, I have received emails from other users that this work-around has cured the ills of the Slingbox Classic and the Slingbox AV, as well. So, you need to ask yourself. Did your problems with streaming begin after updating your Slingbox firmware? Have you updated your Slingbox firmware? Are you using the new Slingplayer 2.0 Beta? Have you recently updated the firmware on your Slingbox in order to use all the functions of the Slingplayer 2.0 Beta? This work-around fix is only related...

The Tuner

So I just purchased a Slingbox Tuner from the internet (can't find them ANYWHERE in stores!) and since my parents only have basic cable, the AV would need a coax-composite converter box blah blah blah. Anyhow, I'm going back to college (hence the need for the SB) and was wondering what would be best. 1. To put the Tuner on a TV in a spare bedroom that'll rarely be used and simply run an ethernet cable through a wall (there is already a passage way so thats no biggie). 2. Put the Tuner nearest to the router on an often watched tv. I guess my questions boils down to this, if I'm watching channel X remotely can someone else be watching channel Y on the TV that the SB Tuner is hooked up to. Like i said there is no cable box, just basic coax in. If that is not the case, they will be on the same channel, which one will "overpower" the other. IE will what channel i turn it on remotely take precedent over what is used with the actual TV...i'm sure i'm rambling and this makes no sense, but i hope someone understands.

I am a little confused on this analog to digital conversion. I understand that it affects rabbit ear TVs. Does it have any impact on the slingbox tuner when hooked directly from the wall to the TV? They say if you have cable TV, you don't have to do anything. The thing is, if you have an analog TV hooked to cable without a box, how is that going to work? Is it really only changing through the air waves?

Ive had my slingbox for about a year and it used to work perfect until here lately. Im only getting static with my basic cable input (coaxial) and no sound using the av cables. I noticed running the setup wizard again that for some reason it gives a 'USA not fully supported' error message that I dont remember ever seeing. Im in dire need of help and would greatly appreciate it as college football is about to start up and I cant miss a single second lmao............. Thanks in advance

It seems I lost some channels on my slingbox. Specifically, the 2-13 range. Slingbox is in the San Fran Bay Area on comcast. Set-up is from the wall jack, cable is split via splitter to TV and another to sling box. This is just basic cable so no cable box. TV still gets all the channels fine while the slingbox does not. Switching the cables around, same thing. TV gets all channels while sling dosen't. Could it be that the tuner section of the sling is fried. All I get is no video signal detected message but some channels do come out. Weird.

at first I thought the pro was needed. I only have 1 cable box but it would be in conflict many times during the day so I need a different input(regular coax) and just use basic cable the rest of the time. Now I'm thinking I could get a SOLO and a Tuner for cheaper than just getting a pro+HD cable. Is there any downfall to doing this? Is the coax connection on the pro going to be a better quality than the tuner? Also, is it a problem at all to switch connections on the same computer from one slingbox to another? Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to update the firmware on my slingbox tuner a while back and something went wrong. The firmware only installed halfway and then I lost the remote connection I was using. So the Firmware on my slingbox is all messed up. What I want to do is return it to its factory specs and firmware but can't figure out how to do it. I tried contacting slingmedia help and they were not very helpfull. Do I just need to hold down the reset button for a certain period of time? I've tried for 10-15 seconds and it didn't work. Any other ideas on how to hard reset my slingbox so it has the factory firmware again? Thanks for your help.

I was interested to see the information released about SlingPlayer 2, it corrects some serious existing flaws in the current software. What wasn't mentioned was wether it would be released for the Mac in addition to the Windows version. One feature that is absolutely essential is the tv guide feature. At the moment it is absolutely pointless using the freeview/dtt tuner included in the SlingPlayer Pro. How on earth are you supposed to tell what channel you are watching if all you have is the channel number, let alone what tv show. For example, if I want to watch E4... I have to scroll through the channels until I find the little logo in the corner of the screen (this could take some time, there are hundreds of channels to search through). Anyway... rant over. Please bring SlingPlayer 2 (or some of its features) to the Mac.

Hi, Does anyone have good suggestions to improve the picture quality on certain channels? Especially the Japanese ones. Our TV signal is from wall-to-TV on coaxial without need for set-top box, but there is a lot of snow and interference with the Japanese channels. We have to lower the resolution to 320x240 to get rid of the snow but the overall clarity is then very poor. We get 2000-3000kbs on home LAN. Any suggestions would be great! btw: Taiwan is also NTSC and I get all the channels as my TV but just lots of interference in some channels. Many thanks!

I am not able to make the replacement Slingbox Tuner that I received from SlingMedia in December 2007 to work. It failed once during the Setup wizard process. I powercycled the unit at was able to complete the setup. It failed again minutes latter and was never recovered. Only the power LED is lit constantly. All other lights are off. The did not even blink when the unit is powered on. I went through 3 sessions with SlingMedia suupport. Checked everything in router and LAN. Tried 3 different routers. Now when they finally admited that this unit is deffective, they say the serial number printed on the box is not valid and they refused to take further action to help. Has anyone in this community had any experience with this unit? and with SlingMedia support system? How can I get the box to work? Or do I have a brick now? Thanks,

Is the tuner obsolete?

I wanted to pick up the tuner version of the Slingbox for a couple reasons: It's a great price and secondly having only one Digital Cable HD PVR terminal in the house I didn't want to have it tied up if I'm slinging on the go and my wife is home and wanting to watch the TV. The tuner allows me to watch TV "in the background" so to speak. My question is though, is the tuner becoming obsolete. How much longer will analog cable signals be available? I'm sure it'll be a while but as long as I can get the main ones, TSN(ESPN), NBC, ABC, CBS, Disc, etc. over analog I'm happy. I'm in Canada by the way...not that it'll make much difference...for the most part it'll be a North American shift when this stuff changes. I'm just wondering if I'll get at least 3-4 years of service similar to what I'm getting now. Any info is appreciated!!
