Slingbox/Sky BB Help Please!

Recently switched to Sky BB - using an airport extreme attached to the Sky BB modem as a bridge for all my bits and bobs. All works ok, except for the slingbox, which cannot connect. As the Extreme is acting as a bridge, there is no 'port forwarding' option (but this was on when previously set up using Pipex, with the extreme as a normal router). I have switched port forwarding on 5001 on, on the Sky router (Sagem) settings, but to no avail - I get a 'can't connect' error. Can anyone help please? Away on Saturday and need it for the next week or two. Many thanks. Stan

Feature idea: IR Pass-thru or iPhone remote app

It occurred to me that my MacBook Pro and most macs have an Infrared port. It would be very nice if the Mac Client could use the port to read inputs from my remote control and pass them through to the sling-box to control the device connected to my slingbox. That way I could use the remote control, instead of the keyboard/mouse. Or, how about a remote-app for my iPhone to control the sling client...kind of like the one for iTunes. Neither would need to be added to the sling client software directly; if an app was written to intercept the inputs (IR or iPhone) and map/pass them through to the client in some way...as rudimentary as passing keystrokes. I wonder if something like this already exists...will have to do a search.

I love how the windows software has the buffer on it. Why can't the MAC software have a buffer on it. At my house the internet is 5mb down, but when i travel sometimes i only pick up 1mb service and i seem to have the digital lockup. My upload speed is plenty fast i was just curious if the slingbox software has a solution, is working on a solution, or just deal with it. thanks everyone Mark

Hi there. I am in Kos (Greek island) and using my MacBook to watch SKY via my brothers slingbox, BT is his ISP. He has just sent me an email saying that he has noticed a dramatic reduction in his connection speed when I am using the slingbox, he kicked me off a few times and immediately was restored to his normal connection speed. Is this correct, is there anything that can be done. As well he has received notice from BT that his download usage is exceeding his levels and that he may either be charged more or worse suspend the service, again is this right? I did a search on here as I imagined these points have been perviously raised but didn't find anything. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers Nic

Hi all, sorry but I am trying to use the slingbox with my satelite box and have a bin file for custom remote control on slingplayer. In the windows version 1.50, I can go into, the SBAV folder in the SlingPlayer program directory, then drop in by custom .bin file and I can see it when I go into the remote control -> other field. However on mac when I goto SlingPlayer->Resources, I can't seem to find an analogous directory to put my file in... Does anybody know how I can do this on my mac? Regards, Rumi

Does anyone know how to install the mac client such that it will not prompt you with the requirement that you "must upgrade the firmware" to continuing using the slingplayer software? That is happening when my son tries to connect with my Solo using his macbook and the 1.6 software. It doesn't happen with me and my use of the 1.5 windows client, because I deleted all the .bin files on my Windows machines. I really like my Solo as it is, and don't want to upgrade the firmware. My speeds are great on LAN and via the internet. I "answered the call" to upgrade my firmware on my 4 year old classic and 2 replacement classics, and I could never get them to work. Never again if I can help it.

Hello... About 2 weeks ago I bought a new router (netgear) at the slingbox location in california. After which i called the sling technician to assisst me in setting up the sling so that I can view it remotely from Hong Kong. The Sling technician could view the streaming fine from his location, but for some reason, when i try to connect to the sling from Windows I get the error message: The connection attempt failed. Make sure the Slingbox you are trying to watch is on, set up for remote viewing, and not blocked by firewall/NAT settings. Error: 0x8007274C and the error i get on my mac is: Connection Failed. You can't connect to the Slingbox right now. Make sure it's set up for remote viewing, and that the network router the slingbox is connected to has the correct Port forwarding settings. I've already tried unplugging the router and slingbox and re-plugging them back in and i have also used different ports: 5001 and 443. When opening the sling from the mac, it doesn't even try to find or connect to the sling in the the states, it immediately throws up the error message. would greatly appreciate it if...

Can someone PM me with a link to DL the Slingplayer Mac Beta Client? Not the most recent version (1.0.6). Or tell me how to make the 1.0.6 not require a firmware update for my Solo when I connect? With the Windows clients, I can delete all the .bin files in the Slingplayer subdirectory, and the firmware prompts stop. Is there a way to do the same thing for the Mac 1.0.6 client? As I said, the 1.06 version that came out recently is requiring that I update the firmware on my Slingbox Solo before it will connect. I want no part of that. I updated my 4 year old Classic's firmware this summer, and it never worked properly again. I spent countless hours with Sling support, and tried 2 other Classic boxes, both of which never worked. I bought a Solo, and it works great. No new firmware for that box!. Using the Windows 1.5 Slingplayer client, I get great speeds and a great picture.

I have 4 LCD screens on two video cards on my MacPro. If I move the slingplayer from either LCD attached to the primary video card to any screen attached to the secondary video card and release the mouse, the Sling Player window snaps back to the center of the primary screen. It's as if the application thinks it has been moved to an invalid area of the screen and is trying to prevent from being stuck offscreen. This did not happen on the older 1.04. I'd continue to just use 1.04 and not worry, but I keep getting popups multiple times per hour telling me to upgrade to the newer version. It's really quite annoying. Any chances at a hotfix or will we have to wait another year?

It's time to call in the Fail Whale... When you resize the Slingplayer window, the cursor and the window -should- remain exactly in sync. That is to say, the cursor is always where the corner of the window is. Try this resizing a standard app like Safari. What happens instead in Slingplayer is that the cursor and window become out of sync with one another. This is a simple thing to fix.

I have a slingbox in the UK and I am in France, I just got a new network provider (Orange in France) and my slingplayer won't work. To start with it said there were issues at the slingbox end of things, so I got someone in the UK to ring up tech support and they said it now worked, but when I try and log on (from a MacBook) it just keeps asking me for a password, and won't accept any passwords (I have tried everything, as there are 4 possible options it could be). I looked on the Slingmedia website and it tells you what to do on a PC if this happens, but not a Mac. Does anyone have any ideas? i can contact tech support on Monday but I really want to watch the GP tomorrow, so any advice someone can give me now on how to make it work would be much appreciated (I am not asking to share someone's Slingbox before I get a generic warning, I'd just like mine to work). Thank you in advance to anyone who can advise!

Since updating my SlingPlayer to version 1.0.6, my aspect ratios are never right in any of the options available. I've got my Slingbox "Classic" hooked up to my TiVo Series 3 with an S-Video cable. I'm certain the aspect ration was displaying correctly before this player installation which also updated the firmware in my Slingbox. Here's what's happening when I cycle between the Aspect Ration options: 1. None - I see a 4:3 window with all the video (16:9 worth) squeezed into the frame, leaving people looking "taller" than they would be. (It looks like a DVD player with the aspect ratio set incorrectly playing an 16:9 picture on squashed on a 4:3 screen.) 2. Letterbox - This option still displays the squashed image, but it clips off the top and bottom of the image for a window that is 16:9. 3. Pillarbox - In this view option, the video is NOT squashed anymore but the viewer size is 4:3. People are no longer taller than they are supposed to be, but now the left and right sides of the image are cut off although there really is image information on the screen to display. 4. Windowbox - This shows...

My SlingBox Pro is currently about 3000 miles away from me. While v.1.4 is currently working, it has some connectivity issues much of the time. So, I've just downloaded the latest desktop player (1.6), but I'm hesitant to install it because I'm afraid it'll stop seeing my SlingBox. (I do have the SlingBox ID #, but I've seen that area grayed out in the past). My questions are: 1.Has anyone updated the desktop player from a remote location, and have they had any problems after that? 2. Is it worth the risk if I update to the new versio. 3. Are there any benefits in connection speeds if I use a proxy server, rather than the SB ID? Thanks!
