I just see today. There are many asian video fans here in the great sling community world. May I suggest you go to the new beta.sling.com portal and suggest they add jpopasia.com to their search list though feedback tab on right of screen. There looks to be 3 requests all ready for both JPOP and Anime. If you do search on word japan at sling.com you find 1 or 2 manga but that all. I already use my sling catcher with projector to send JPOPASIA.COM to my flat screen TV. It works great. It would be very nice if could be done from sling.com media portal. Thankyou

So you want to hack a Slingbox?

Ok, first off, I want to state I have NOT done any hacking on my Slingbox. It's new, it's under warranty and so I'll wait. That being said, I have a number of ideas. I have only one Slingbox, so what I know, only applies to that box. Features/hardware probably vary according to the different boxes. All of this applies only to the Pro-HD. 1) It appears to have a TTL 3.3v com port. It's a 4 pin header on the board without the pins. You probably can connect to the Slingbox but you need a TTL to RS-232 converter to get feedback on a regular computer. What to expect? You could get, just regular boot up info. You my actually end up at a debugging prompt or better yet, it could slide past all that and give you a shell prompt. 2) A much larger header (without pins) exists on the board. It could possibly be a JTAG port. This port could allow dumping any and all memory in the box. It also could allow programming the flash and editing the ram. The trick here is the control program that runs on the host computer. It has to talk...

Anybody have the Memorex MVBD2510? I haven't looked up any specs on it but I'd guess it's an early rev model. I got a great deal on my HD DVD player last year and figure I'll get a BluRay this holiday season as prices are dropping. Haven't decided if I'll settle for an early model or wait for prices on newer rev models to come down.

Ever since I started developing mobile applications, I always thought to make a name for myself in the field. But despite developing some good applications I always remained obscure and the company I worked with got all the credit and the money. Not that I complain of the company, after all they gave me the job and the chance to do the stuff in the first place and they did give me decent promotions and bonuses. But still something was missing. May be I want a separate niche for me. I don’t have dearth of ideas, what I lack is opportunity. Now this Nokia contest ‘Calling All Innovators’ seems like the opportunity I had been waiting for. If my innovation makes the grade, it will give me the ideal platform to showcase my talent and ideas on the biggest stage possible through their global contest. There are three submission categories to choose from (including ECO -Challenge, Emerging Markets and Technology Showcase), which means everybody has multiple chances to win. Winning developers will: Get to exhibit their applications at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona , Spain Participate in “meet and greets” with Industry leaders, VC’s, Mobile Operators and distributors Win cash...

I know many people have lost confidence in the stock market. If you are looking to beat inflation while still having money that is insured and never loses money, consider an online savings account. There are several of them out there. My favorite one is E*Trade. They pay an APY of 3.3. HSBC Direct has 3 APY. If you do online banking through your local bank already, that is great. You can keep your current checking account and transfer money from your local checking account to the online savings. You do the transfering both to and from from the bank you have the online savings account from. Check out these web sites: http://www.hsbcdirect.com http://us.etrade.com

Hi all Was just thinking, can we make some difference to the society in general with our mobile application development skills? After all, the now ubiquitous mobile is used by every body from the ultra rich to ordinary laborer in developing countries. And if we can somehow develop an application which can solve some of the problems that the poor face across the world, it will be the greatest contribution by mobile technology to mankind. Of course despite all my good intentions I could perhaps never get around to developing such an idea into a workable application on my own. But now, I guess I must give it a shot along with a few friends. Nokia has launched a contest for mobile application developers ( www.callingallinnovators.com ). Amongst the three categories where entries are invited, one category is for pioneering applications and services impacting the daily lives of millions in developing nations. The winner in all the categories will get his/her application distributed by Nokia for free and get a cash prize of USD 25,000 plus a trip to Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona . I feel this is one is a boon for people like me who keep...

Bandwidth Per Hour

Hello from London, I am looking at purchasing a Sling Box so I can view British TV from my home in London on a 38" LED screen in Cape Town, South Africa. Viewing time per month would be around say 20 hours. I know I will need to organise a broadband connection in London, likely to be BT's unlimited package (speeds upto 8mb) placed next to the Sling Box. I also realise that I will need to connect my laptop to broadband in South Africa (speeds upto 4mb) and then to the LED TV. The questions I have are: Can I get a good image on such a large screen? To get a good image, how much data will I use in South Africa per hour? The reason this is an issue is because I will not be on unlimited data in South Africa due to cost. Many Thanks.

Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Customer, We appreciate your business and strive to provide you with the best online experience possible. One of the ways we do this is through our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). The AUP outlines acceptable use of our service as well as steps we take to protect our customers from things that can negatively impact their experience online. This policy has been in place for many years and we update it periodically to keep it current with our customers' use of our service. On October 1, 2008, we will post an updated AUP that will go into effect at that time. In the updated AUP, we clarify that monthly data (or bandwidth) usage of more than 250 Gigabytes (GB) is the specific threshold that defines excessive use of our service. We have an excessive use policy because a fraction of one percent of our customers use such a disproportionate amount of bandwidth every month that they may degrade the online experience of other customers. 250 GB/month is an extremely large amount of bandwidth and it's very likely that your monthly data usage doesn't even come close to that amount. In fact, the threshold is approximately 100 times...

Just interested if anyone else has had a bad experience after returning a slingbox. The story so far....had the pro version for about 6 months with everything ***** dorrie....went to Ireland and set it up on a computer still all well.....after 2 weeks get the error message about the network connection....get home to Canada and can't connect to network. Consult tech support ....bad box....they will send a new one. GREAT....new one arrives in quick time...setup great....connected. en I come to the "power off" portion of setup....problen it will not turn off...oh! oh!....ok will change the ir cable to the hd one I had in storage ...still nothing. De wired the slingbox and took a look at the unit....definately a problem with the ir port (can see it is broken and wires seem to be loose). Are the replacement slingboxes "new" or "recycled" from someone else who has had a problem????

NBA Ref Fixing

I want to make one thing clear about game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals between the Lakers and Kings. The allegations about this game being fixed was Donaghy's desperate attempt to make the officals of that game and the league look bad. If it sounds like I am implying Donaghy was not working at that game, it is because I am saying he was not the official of that game. This fellon baited us into thinking this, and he got what he wanted. It may have back fired on him a little bit because I would say more than half of the people think Donaghy was admitting his guilt that he himself fixed game 6. Phil Jackson implied that in game 5, there was a bad call where the ball went out of bounds off of Sacramento. The refs called it off of LA, so the ball went back to the Kings. Bibby barried a 3 pointer to win the game for the Kings. Game 6 pretty much put things even.
