SlingPlayer Version 2.0.0.465

Since I installed this SlingPlayer 2.0.0.465 version, my streaming got real worse. Let me explain, whenever I start watching fast few minutes picture quality is absolutely wonderful. But, in 5 to 10 minutes the streaming bit will drop from over 1200kbps to almost 112kbps. Picture quality will become miserable to watch. Kbps rate will keep fluctuating all over the range, never consistent. If lucky, only consistent rate is at 112kpbs, still very choppy audio/picture. I never had this problem with previous version. I understand there are few good features with this new one. But, what good does it make if I can't watch it all. Please help me here. If necessary, I want to go back to previous version. It is worth to mention that, I have no problem of inconsistency with all other Video streaming sites such as, JumpTv dot com, hulu dot com etc. I can watch those sites hours without a single drop of bits.

I know that the full fledged Sling Player for iPhone is in the works, but how about just the Remote Control aspect of it. I would get a ot of use out of just being able to use my iPhone to control my TV from different rooms in my house. I would pay 3-5 bucks for an iPhone app like that.

Sling Media; Why is it, firmware updates are not accompanied with firmware release notes? I think it is only fair, we be warned when new firmware is to be released and notes saying what fixes were done and features added. You like our feedback on problems. We would like your feedback, on what you think has been fixed. I see this is being done, somewhat, with Slingcatcher. Whats wrong with the rest of the devices family?

Vista Network Tuning Driver

Silcondust has a product called HDHomerun. It has two ATSC/ClearQAM tuners in it and when plugged into a Cable network or an Over The Air (OTA) antenna, it will stream unencrypted digital television. The two things it doesn't do is decode analog or encrypted signals. That basicly leaves the user to the 7 broadcast networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CW, MYnetwork and PBS) for viewing. The intent of this box is not the same as the Sling Media's model of streaming over the internet, but rather you can place this device anywhere in the home that receives the signal and has a network connection. Pluging the box into each, your computer can pick up the signal as if it were a tuner card in your PC. The increased value is, any and all PCs in your home can take advantage of this tuner, just no more than two at a time. The method Silcondust uses to deliver content to the display is by installing a small app that is always running in the system tray. This app emulates a video capture hardware device that is recognized by Vista or XP. After installed, and properly configured, the user runs through the...

Why does Slingbox do this? I have 3 Slingbox classics in different locations and they all do the same thing. I can set them up fine for video input from a satellite receiver, but when I try to use the Slingbox internal analog TV tuner as well, to access different channels, things go fatally wrong. It will tune the analog channels ok, and you can see them while they're tuning, but when you get to the last step, to save the new configuration, the next button never appears. After that the box is frozen completely. I can't access it in any way. The only way to recover it is if someone is available at the remote location to remove the power and plug the power back in again. THIS IS JUST WHAT YOU DON'T WANT FROM A PIECE OF EQUIPMENT DESIGNED TO BE USED REMOTELY! It should NEVER get into a state where it can not be reset remotely. Every one of my 3 Slingbox classics has done this, and I have had to abandon the idea of using the internal tuner with any of them. What is wrong, and is there anything I can do? And please , try...

This is just an observation. I went to the Sling accounts page to up date my email. 1. It would not let me change my email, 2. It required me to enter my Sling box model, I have a Solo, but the pull down box does not have Solo listed. I went to the support page thinking I could email or chat with support. There's no option for email that I could find on the contacts page and no general support section in the chat option. I would like to tell Sling directly they need to make some small changes, but I can't find any way to send general feedback. Suggestions?

I just bought a Slingbox AV and found my device wasn't listed. Slingbox says if yours isn't listed, try them all, who knows you might get lucky! Or check back for a new software release ..... What a joke! So that's it? I'm screwed! .... back to the store it goes? I mean without a virtual remote the thing is practically useless. I'm reading comment after comment people stating there device isn't listed or it's missing some functions. Who designed this thing? Suggestion! Include a device learn feature which would consist of a IR receiver built into the unit and a virtual remote create program. Creating a new virtual remote would involve using the software to learn each remote control button code by aiming the remote at the IR receiver and pushing each button. Once the remote control buttons are learnt the user would then create a custom virtual remote control and apply the new codes to each button. Simple, problem solved, everyone's happy!

Product Misrepresentation

I would like to relay a major concern with marketing for all Slingbox products. There is a huge misrepresentation on what exactly the Slingbox does. Let me explain what I bought the Slingbox for. I have a DirecTV HR-20 receiver. I have another high def TV that currently can only receive a standard def signal from it because it's too far away from the receiver. My roommate and I also have fairly powerful computers with second displays. The hope was for both of us to be able to watch whatever is playing on the HR-20 on the second display, and connect a Mac Mini that I have to the second High Def TV. First, there is no where on the web page that explains true limitations, nor is there anything in the product documentation that says only one user can connect at any one time. There is nothing that explains this on the box either. It wasn't until I purchased a Pro model with the HD connector, got it home and set up, connected to and configured, and then tried to connect from another computer in my home. It then complained about another person being connected. When I put in...

Linux support for slingbox

I was going to get a Slingbox for Christmass. Possibly multiple slingboxes until I found out it didn't have Linux support. Before someone tells me to use wine that is completely unexceptable. I want something that does more than just work. I want to to work reasonably well. Wine is only a last resort answer when nothing else works. Other companies are producing slingbox-like devices that support Linux, and I will probably purchase one or more of these instead. So if Slingmedia wants to sell me or my family and friends Slingboxes start supporting Linux-or we'll go elsewhere.

Hi Community hi Sling Employee I'm very dissapointed from the Slingbox support, I spoke with the UK guys and the US guys, with both I chatted roundabout 30 Minutes about the problem with the remote control from the Dreambox from Dream Media. I own a Slingbox pro, the only thing I need that it gets perfect is to have the remote control from Dream, I know, that in the UK Sling, you have the Dream stuff in, why not in the US version I own ? Is it really that tricky ? If yes, what's makes it that tricky ? I think the IR development and know how on the Dream stuff you have, wouldn't it be great to satisfie alot of your customers ? Just go to google and type "Slingbox & Dreambox" you will read from alot dissapointed users. So please include in your next update or make a patch or whatever. When can we get that, I would really appreciate just a statement. Thanks a lot Daniel

I really think Sling should invest in a Linux client....As a potential purchaser, I am turned off by even lack of basic viewing support for linux. Not even a browser based viewer or firefox plugin? After scouring the forums, I see there are is a wine work-around (or two) but neither worked. I already own Snapstream Beyond TV, and its an execellent product, but does not work with my Scientific Atlanta 8300 dvr. Your product looks like it will fit the bill, but the lack of viewing capabilities in Linux is disappointing, even though you have a Mac version---which has much less users. Has the company reconsidered its position on a Linux client? Thanks Bob

Hello, I have slingbox pro and am trying to connect it to a Direct Tv w/ Tivo box. the model is a RCA DVR40. I believe I have tried all the codes in relation to this box. This box is a few years old and seems unlikely that Slingbox would not include it with their line of codes available. Even contacted Direct Tv to get the remote code and was given 0999, 111, 071 which do not work. The irblasters were exchanged and I reconnected everything. The lightsare lit up where they should be. I am running this on a Mac if that should matter. Slingbox was not helpful at all. They just shrugged their shoulders and wiped their hands basically saying tough sh@t . Is there anybody out there who has been able to get this DVR working with their slingbox pro? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
