Forget Slingbox support

Slingbox support sucks. Actually I wouldn't know about the actual support, since I have been trying to reach it for two days without success. The first three times I called they wouldn't answer my questions because they said my warranty had expired even though I had a current invoice and order number from THEIR store showing that I had purchased the product less than 90 days ago. When I tried to tell support that I had the invoice and order number in my hand, they wouldn't let me forward a copy of my invoice by email which would have saved a lot of time, they made me fax it to their store (closed, of course, on Sundays) and wait until THEY DECIDED TO CALL ME! Of course when they finally did call, I was at work, not home where the slingbox is, and I had to try calling them again. Cut off the first time after going through their labrynthian phone options, I called again at 6:45pm and then held for 36 MINUTES. Did I then, finally, get to speak to a tech? Of course not. I was cut off AGAIN. And this time the recording said: We're only open...

Great product when it works but the worst technical support ever. Its once thing to have horrible support but these guys want to charge you extra now for horrible support. I got my device which was not cheap (Pro) last year and used thier own TurboLink for network connection. I sent then emails and called them that it would freeze and then stop working from the Sling Catcher but would work fine on the Sling Player from a PC. They said we will look into it and will get back to me. 3 months later after followups, nothing. So the device "Slingcatcher" which was not cheap either was a paper weight since December till today. I call them and they say sorry we didnt get back to you before and we will look into it but for this call you will need to pay x amount to get support or extend warrenty... I can understand if you are buying a $10 device to support like this but to pay $200 + and only give 90 day support is just ridculous. Support should be free. Only warrenty exchange should be 90 days... In the end I solved my own problem by...

All they do is run the installer package just like you would. If anything goes wrong they will tell you to contact your CPU manufacturer. That's it, from the moment the player doesn't work, all questions and concerns to tech support regarding slingplayer will not be answered. BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE. By far the lamest tech-support I have ever encountered, and honestly for me that is a serious achievement.

I recently purchased the Aluratek USB Jukebox, surprisingly, it was better than what I thought, 13, 000 station from all over the World and keeps growing, because you can add your local radio stations if they stream over the internet, there is not fee. Like the SIRIUS has everything for all tastes, this one does too, the quality in the Music is incredible since DJ’s from all over the World works for those Radio Station, you can find a Japanese Radio playing Rock or Sweden Radio playing Salsa and all mixed perfect. IDEA: Since the Slingbox PRO-HD have a USB, can be possible created a slingplayer for cell to play the 13 000 Stations or your local radio station everywhere you go and also connecting your cell to auxiliar in your Car, so we ending getting similar to SIRUIS for free. Since EchoStar was interest in purchased SIRIUS when was declared in bankrupt, maybe they also show interest in this company and incorporated this technology to the next generation of Slingbox. ALURATEK was born in 2007 that is the latest date that I found something from this company, actually selling their product in BB and other electronic stores. _______________________________________________________________________________ SOME...

I would pay good money for a PS3 software implementation of the SlingPlayer. In my home I have a couple of Windows Media servers serving content around the home. One of the clients is a Playstation 3 so it would be great if I could have an application on the PS3 that could be used to watch the video stream from the Slingbox. It would be even more useful if the PS3 implementation could relay the video to one or more PSPs paired with the PS3 that has the Sling Player installed. (A standalone PSP SlingPlayer would be equally welcomed.)

This likely has been asked before, but with my searching of keywords and not finding anything, I figured I would ask anyways. There are numerous times when I forget to turn off the player on my computer and I am then unable to access from my mobile device (or another computer later on). Maybe it is already possible, but could a "boot all" option be built in that requires a password? So If I am on my mobile phone and it says it is already in use, I could stop all other users and use the device i am on? Thanks!

Hi i would like to be able t tell my sling catcher how long to buffer before playing the stream as sometimes i want to view better quality (than the internet speed is allowing) or but due to the delay in the internet connection it somtimes just freezes then buffers then plays then buffer then freezes...until it slowly becomes un-watchable is there a way to optionally extend the buffering duration on (possibly in the remote options ) so that i can grab enough information to keep a constant stream when it starts and also at a better quality than it having to choke the image to get it running constant.... this is not happening all the time so adding the option to add more buffer to the options button on my catcher would be really nice facility "extend buffering x2/x3/x4/x6 ect..." i know it trys to find the optomin stream and also has to be able to change and update quickly but sometimes when you watching a movie its nice to get the maximum stream possible even if the catcher takes a bit longer to start due to buffering into memory on the catcher as sometime you just want it...

Feature Idea: User-selectable bandwidth capping

It would be great if there was an easy way to "cap" the bandwidth used by the SlingBox to allow "headspace" for other things on the network. Why? This would let you use the automatic optomization, but restrict the bandwidth so it doesn't use up all the upload capacity in case someone is still at home. This could be easily implimented similar to the Local/Internet resolution setting - just have a box below each resolution drop-down field and call it "max usage". It could have either an entry field (type the max speed in kbps) or drop-down for common speeds (unlimited, 256kbps, 512kbps, 756kbps, 1mbps, 1.5mbps, 2mbps...). Currently, I have to "bounce" back and forth between automatic optomization on the LAN, and manually configuring when I'm slinging through the internet - otherwise anyone at home gets such a poor throughput it takes forever to send a text-only email. I've tried to set up this sort of restrictions on the Verizon FiOS router we have, but it doesn't seem to let me set limits for only one client device.

I am quite upset that the 8330 is not supported. I just switched my phone from a Treo 800w which was supported to the Blackberry 8330. Other BB devices are working. I'm hearing that it is because the device is CDMA? My phone streams video from SprintTV but sling can't do it? I know that my complaint will go no where but I am really mad that probably the most POPULAR BB is not supported. I hear the blame being placed on RIM, if that is the truth then Sling should put more pressure on them to either update to allow the software to work. or find some other work around for it!

Feature Request: Controlling 2 Tivos Remotely

I have two Tivos, in the same room, and my Tivo remote has a nifty little 1-2 switch so that commands intended for Tivo1 only affect Tivo1 and the same for Tivo2. The virtual remote with the SlingPlayer software doesn't have this switch and every command I enter affects both Tivos. This can be annoying (if my son is watching Tivo1 and I pause the show I am watching remotely on Tivo2) or dangerous (deleting a program on both Tivos when I only want to delete one program.) Please consider adding this nuance to the virtual remote. Thanks! - Ellen

I am a TiVo and Sling user and would like Sling to add ethernet IR support for TiVo DVRs. TiVos running factory firmware can now receive all IR commands via ethernet. I have written a simple remote control application for my desktop which allows me to operate the TiVo just as if I had the remote in my hand. I think it would be great if Sling added this very simple code to the Slingbox firmware. The Sling box is already connected to the network. This enhancement shouldn't require a change to the Slingplayer software. The benefit of this modification over the current method would be eliminating the need for IR blasters and a cleaner install. The details of my app are here . The full thread discussing the details of TiVo IR control can be found here .

Like everyone knows, the USB is supposed to be for a Wi-Fi device, we are still waiting for the Wi-Fi, but that is ok, I solved that problem with the Slinglink (2 boxes and a fight with my wife). IDEA: Since SlingPROHD is going to be a universal product, why don’t make a USB device that allow to learned remote control codes (IR) by just placing your remote in front of the reader? I see a lot people around the world frustrated because of that reason in this forum. Remember if a customer doesn’t get full satisfaction you lose it. _________________________________________________________________________________ SOME IDEAS CAN BE FREE, THE GOOD ONES ARE NOT
