Slingbox in UK - Freeview box and Solo?

Hi there. I want to get a Slingbox for Christmas which I will leave at the in-laws in the UK. They currently get Freeview through the normal aerial. If I buy a Freeview box (probably one with a hard drive) can I use it with the Slingbox Solo? Or would I be better getting a Pro (although this doesn't have a record facility, right?) thanks Alex

I have a BS/CS dish antenna, On my TV I can just connect the cable from this antenna to BS Connection and get BS/CS and 6 national TV networks. I am thinking that the TV has inbuilt tuner for BS/CS. I was wondering if the same will be possible with Sling box. My plan for setup is BS Antenna --> Sling box (Model not yet fixed) --> Get BS/CS and 6 National channels. I am sure that the 6 national channels will work without issue. Not sure about BS/CS Anyone with experience with similar setup ? Appreciate any help I can get.

This is an older PVR receiver, but the remote that Sling thinks controls the device has no pvr functionality. It represents (or looks like) a 3100 (non-PVR) remote. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I'm going to be moving out of town for four months. I'm looking for a way to be able to stream from my TiVo to my laptop while I'm gone. It seems that the Slingbox may be the proper tool for this but I do have a few questions: Will I be able to 'manipulate' my TiVo over the Slingbox interface across the internet? By 'manipulate' I mean things like deleting programs I have watched, setting up recordings, etc. I've been aware of the Slingbox product since it's introduction (I'm kind of a geek), but having read the reviews that people have posted at places like Amazon, and others, I'm tremendously concerned about the reliability of the product. I'm going to be away for months and have read many stories about having to power cycle the device regularly. That having been said....often the people who complain the loudest are the ones who know the least. That's why I'm here. You folks use these things day in and day out. Is it worth the money? Do they work? Are my expectations for how the Slingox will function reasonable? Thanks so much for...

Anyone just go through some channel issues with COX cable in San Diego? I am slinging from there and just recently had a few channels jumbled up. For instance, channel 35 was tuning in TNT (channel 34) when it is supposed to be Discovery, channel 63 was tuning in FOOD (channel 62) when it is supposed to be SCIFI. I was also getting some kind of shopping channel on 5, etc. I also lost my free digital channels - 6.1, 8.1, 10.1, etc. I was able to get the analog channels back, but still have not gotten my digital ones in. I am wondering if COX is f-ing with their lineup without telling anyone. Anyone else have this issue or know if COX is changing?

I waited almost two years for Sling to make a mobile app for Palm, it took about the same for iPhone, and now it looks like it will take at least two years (if ever) for Android. I love the idea of Sling, but the usefulness is leaving much to be desired. I used to tell people they should get one, but now I tell them not to bother unless it currently does what they need, because it will not improve in MANY years.

How to improve streaming speed ?

Hello, help required on streaming speed. I have sling classic located in Japan and UK. UK - I've virgin cable 50mb wired, average speed are Down 49mb, Up 1.5mb Japan - I've Hikari FTTH 100mb wired, average speed are down 74mb, Up 46mb However where ever way i watch (either in Japan or UK) the max streaming speed seem to be around 900kbps. Watching UK sling from Japan make sense as UK Upload speed have average of 1.5mb, however watching Japan Sling in UK i was expecting to be much faster as the slowest of the connection is the upload speed in Japan of 46mb. Is this the best i can get? Are there anything i could do to speed up sling? do i need to upgrade to Sling Solo ? Just an additional info, I also transfer Media file (TV programm) from Japan to UK using Filezilla, the max speed i can get is also around 900pbs, even if just downloaing 1 file or 10 files x 900kpbs. PC : CPU are Quad, 4gb ram.

What does this mean and how do I go about utlizing electrical outlets to hop onto the internet? Thanks, Oldsling

This is my last hope....after 3 weeks tring My slingbox pro HD located in Taipei Taiwan and hook up with ADSL 10M/2M My Sling Catcher located in Toronto Canada and hooked with cable 10M/1M The problem I have and can not overcome is- 1.When Streaming at home with slingplayer I got only up to 1800kbps at the most but buffering single dropped every 5-10 min of streaming...and will come back.(with no any other divice or pc running at the same time) However, when I watch on Slingcatcher on TV with cable hood up....i got maybe up to 1300kbps only...but buffering signle drop every 2 min and will not come back, I need to disconnect and reconnect to get streaming back.(again, no other pc or divice running at the same time). I did also try cable direct from cable moderm to sling catcher...still the same. I ran a speed test from toronto to taiwan during the high traffic hours around 8-10pm. I got downlord speed between 1-3 Mbps and uplord at 0.6 Mbps. Even when I try during off traffic hour at 2-3pm in the afternoon, I got 4-5 Mbps downlord and close to full uplord range. I still have buffering...

In doing some research I believe that I have this correct, but not being a techie I want to make sure before I make this change. My SB location is in Texas and currently only has a 512 upload speed package, and a speed test hows 491 actual. My speed here when I watch the SB here in Mexico usually runs around 425. I can upgrade the upload speed at the SB location in Texas to 1mb. That's the max that TWarner offers there. That should help my speed/picture here in Mexico quite a bit from what I understand. I just wanted to verify that that is indeed correct. Thanks as always.

So here is a little heads up. First, Dish Network has filed for trademark protection on "TV Everywhere," which the satellite operator apparently is seeking to use for its forthcoming Slingbox-enabled set-top box. Dish has established a "TV Everywhere" section of its Web site http://www.dishnetwork.com/tveverywhere/ that references its remote DVR programming features and includes a link to Sling Media, the maker of the place-shifting Slingbox devices EchoStar bought. The satellite company originally expected to offer the "SlingLoaded" ViP 922 receiver this spring , but now plans to debut it before the end of the year. You can read more here.... http://www.multichannel.com/article/388171-Dish_Files_To_Trademark_TV_Everywh... Now for the real heads up... I talked to someone that works for Dish Networks and has been testing the 922 and they have been having tons of problems with it. Hence why they were planning to offer it this Spring and now it has now been delayed until just before X-Mas. I am sure they will get it all working together nicely, in the end, but if you are wanting to get to it early then prepare yourself for issues. If you like the idea but are not willing to be a 'beta tester' for it I would...
