Next software/firmware update for Mac?

I am hoping that one of the board moderators who works for Slingbox can provide some insight on the plans for Slingplayer for Mac. I loved my Mac Slingplayer and had absolutely no problems with it until updating to the 1.0.4 software and firmware versions. It appears to be well established in both the "Version 1.0.4" AND "Slingbox Directory Not Saved?" threads that others are having great difficulties with the latest software and firmware updates. Further, there does not seem to be a simple fix. The greatest success stories correcting 1.0.4 technical difficulties seem to involve getting someone from Slingbox technical support to manually uninstall the latest firmware update and downgrade the firmware to the previous version while leaving the latest version of the software. (I worked with tech support, exchanged numerous emails, provided my finder ID and passwords, etc...but was never lucky enough to get things up and running again.) Still, this "solution" obviously sounds less than ideal. I just purchase a new Mac. I hope to avoid the nightmares that people are having with the latest version of the Slingplayer software for Mac. Please advise if there is a new software update in the works and, if so, when I can expect...

How do I get it downstairs ?

Hi, Just bought a Slingbox Pro and it's set up in the UK, I'm in Canada but that distance isn't a problem, but going from upstairs {where my computer is} to my TV downstairs has me guessing... I want to watch the programming on my TV, not on the computer, so I need to get the signal through to the TV one that can work as a monitor, it has the regular monitor socket on the back of it. What's the best way to do that ? I guess one way would be to set up another modem and run it to a laptop under the TV ? or should I be looking at wifi ing it from the desktop upstairs to a wifi receiver then into the TV/monitor ? trouble with that is I'd be up and down the stairs all the time changing channels... Running a second computer downstairs seems to be a bit of an overkill, but how else can I change channels ? If I have to get a second computer what's the most important thing ? is it the video card or memory etc ? I'm new at this stuff, including computers, so I'd appreciate any help / guidance you guys can provide....

Help with multiple routers/speed

Tried to figure this out by reading through the site, but haven't been able to figure out a solution. Here's my situation in a nutshell: I currently have my slingbox pro connected to my primary router, a wired Lynksys BEFSR81. I then have a Belkin Wirelss Router F5D8230-4 connected to the Linksys, to provide wireless thhoughout the house. (both routers in the same room) In this setup, any computer connected to the Linksys wired router sees the slingbox as "LAN" and runs at about 6000kbps, for a very watchable picture. Remove viewing when away from home runs at about 800kbps, pretty close to my isp's maximum upload speed. So far so good, but I would really like to be able to connect at the house at the higher speed both wired and wirelessly, which I assume the Belkin is capable of. Currently any wireless Slingplayer connection at the house also maxes out at 8ookbps. I've read about port forwarding, opening ports, and configuring multiple routers, but before I slog through trying something that might be wrong, I'm looking for some advice: What is the recommended setup in my situation to be able to connect at the 6000kps speed at the...

I just bought an AV, connecting to a HP Pavilion a1410n through a D-Link 108g MIMO ZXR DI-634 router. Using XPMedia Player Edition 5.1sp2. Cable modem, cable DVR (DVR / SlingBox) . More details on request.

Hi, I just recently bought a slingbox AV. I plugged it in and set it on my network via a homeplug ethernet over powerline. Previously I had a number of computers connected to this connection but I removed the switch and plugged it into the slingbox direct. thinking no problem I know this connection works well. Hillarity ensued as it grabbed Ip addresses that were already in use then shut down completely. I disconnected the slingbox and restored my network to function after many router reconfigs and reboots. So my son brings his computer out and connects to the same homeplug since it is no longer in the slingbox. Hilarity again ensues. I finally relocate the homeplug to a different AC circuit and lo and behold everything starts working. At this point I'm thinking what is different between having it all work and having it go really wrong. The only thing: I plugged in the slingbox. When I disconnected it I had failed to remove the power brick from the powerstrip. Well I say; that's certainly interesting. To shorten this (I know too late) the power brick that came with my slingbox must be defective because it shuts down...

Hi all, first of all I have to say what an amazing product!! I heard about the Slingbox, but didnt realise how fantastic it was until I got one this week!! I have set it up and it seems to stream fine within my home network, reaching 2000kbps+, but I am trying to improve the quality for remote viewing outside the home network.. At present I can only seem to get 150kbps average. I am not sure if the problem is at home, where im slinging from, or at uni, where im slinging to?! At home we have a 2mb BT broadband connection, and at uni I have 2mb connection too, but i am connecting using a wireless Netgear router. Both home and uni computers are Macs... does anyone have any suggestions as to how i can improve the kbps and picture quality...? Im kinda technically minded, but not massively... I read somewhere on the forums that using something called "SSH" can improve the quality, but I dont know what that is?! Thanks in advance guys, Michael

Slingbox Pro is a $250 piece of crap.

So I just got my Slingbox Pro a few weeks ago. It was up and running fine. My upload speed is 348Kbps. Now after I upgrade to the latest firmware the best I can get is a minute or two of video before the stream drops to 100Kbps and stops completely. It seems that others here have had this same problem with their slingbox after a firmware upgrade. On top of that, I find out that there's no way to remotely power down or reboot this slingbox. Does that make sense? A product that is meant to be used remotely that has no way to be rebooted? Even my ISP says that my modem needs to be rebooted occassionally. Just like I occassionaly have to reboot my TIVO, TV, Cell phone, etc... I guess the folks at Sling don't think a box ever needs to be rebooted. If I knew all this before I bought this product I wouldn't have bought it. Bottom line- don't buy a Slingbox unless you plan remain close to the physical location of your slingbox.

Hi All, I just bought the Sling AV and I'm up and slinging but I have some issues with the picture quality. Was wondering if any of you have any suggestion on how to improve the quality. Here is my set up: ISP: Rogers (I live in Toronto Canada) Router: Linksys WRT54GS (Sling box connected wire/ laptop wireless) Laptop: ASUS G1S (Pretty high end gaming laptop so I don't think it has anything to do with my computer hardware) OS: VISTA (Could it be Vista) Well any help on making my picture quality better would be great. I have yet to try slingiing remotely so I can just imagine how bad the quality will be then. I found picture quality better when I used my desktop wich is about 5 years older then my laptop and has a monitor that has less resolution. The OS is XP Pro and it is wire connected to the router. I tried connecting with using direct IP address using my laptop and pictue qualtiy was even worst and unwatchable. I hope this sling box thing works for me I really do want it to work but if I can't get picture qualtiy up I will return the unit.

I seem to have lost my s-video feed from Slingbox A/V. Unfortunately, I'm away from home so I can't physically check any connections, but no one will be there so nothing should have affected the connection. I get "No Video Signal Detected" all of the sudden. I've tried remotely restarting the Slingbox by upgrading the firmware, no luck. I looked at the info section and it's reporting under "Current A/V Input" that the video standard is "PAL". I'm in the US so why would it all of the sudden think the video is PAL? Is that why I can't see the video all of the sudden? It's connected to a SCI ATL 8300HD. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Sky+ through Coax input?

Hi Guys, I recently bought a slingbox classic. I have sky+ (distributed around the home) and ideally would like to connect it upstairs through the Coax cable to the tv there. I can receive the analgue sky signal that is sent there through the distrbution box but seem unable to get the sky remote to control the sky box ( I have a ? magic eye which sends the sky remote signals downstairs to the box ). I only seem to get the basic remote controller to choose from. If I can get the sky controller to work with the analogue tv signal then I will be happy, otherwise its a very long ethernet cable to the sky+ box! Is there a solution? James

Log file

Tonight I was playing some XBOX while at home for a change (I travel for work), and I noticed the lights were on my slingbox as if someone were watching it. I didn't really care and just let it go until I realized my DVR box was changing channels. I checked with the couple people I know that I gave my address and user password to, and none of them were on it. Is there any sort of log file or anything that I can check to see what IP address was on the box? I see how you can tell what IP address is on it when you're watching it, but that's obviously me when I log into it and doesn't help see who had logged into it previously. I've already changed my password just in case. Thanks

Verizon FiOS TV Remote

I've contacted Sling Tech Support regarding the lack of support for customers who have Verizon FiOS TV DVR (Motorola box). Twice I received the response, "We don't support that box." The closest substitute is the Comcast Motorola DVR box. Has anyone found a better substitute?

HD Connect Worth It?

Is the HD Connect worth it? Or does the stream run the same whether it is an HD source or not? If I actually get an HD picture away from home that would be great. I am sure I can get in on the LAN at home but away from home is where I use it the most.
