Right here is the situation, I am trying to learn what I can about the various 'sling' products that are available but it is a bit of a mine field and I was hoping for some expert help from you guys. Basically I currently live in the UK and will be moving to Beijing in a couple of months. Me and the family can not bear the prospect of Chinese TV for the next couple of years. We would like to be able to watch Sky television on our TV in China. To enable us to do this I am going to get broadband and Sky installed at my fathers house (he currently has neither) to send the signal....... Which product(s) do I require to satisfy my needs, I was thinking the Slingcatcher.... what do you guys think ? Does the catcher come with the equipment needed for the send adn receive end or do i need 2 'slings' ? I would prefer not to have to receive the signal via my PC and have to then link a cable from the PC to the TV as this would mean the PC would have to be on most of the...

Hello all, I will be moving in January with my family of 5 to Germany for 6 months (maybe longer). I have a Comcast DVR and cable modem at home. Most likely I will have a high speed connection in Germany to view the stream from the slingbox. Does anyone have a configuration to recommend? I'm not sure from reading the FAQ's if the HD option is worth it because you won't actually be streaming in 720 or 1080 right? Also, how good is the picture if you play the video onto a TV with and s-video cable?

Well I'm not able to needless to say. My slingbox is in Chicago and the Internet connection here and there is fine, but for some reason, I cannot connect to my slingbox account. It just looks like it times out. I have a feeling a port might be blocked, I am firewalled, or something, checking canyouseeme.org at least says port 5001 is not open. So at this point, I am thinking I may very well be jwf & sol...unless somebody can offer me some more pointers.

Hello everybody, First let me thank you in advace for helping me as I have a few question, here's my situation: I just moved to Switzerland for work and to say that the TV here is terrible is really an understatement specially when you don't speak french, german nor italian. I'm originally form Mexico so spanish and english are ok. I'm thinking about buying a Slingbox and a Slingcatcher but before I go all out and take out my credit card I want to make sure it's going to work, my plan is to instal the sling box in Mexico at my parents and the sling catcher here in Switzerland but these are my concerns: - Mexico is on NTSC and Switzerland is PAL, I have an HDTV so would this be a problem? - The internet connection at my parents in Mexico is 512 kbps, would this be enough to get a good signal? what are the minimum requirements - Can you watch a different channel than someone watching the TV were the slingbox is installed? - Does the slingbox also record the tv signal? (like a TiVO) - Has anybody here ever used it with a Mexican SKY...

TV from UK to Cyprus

I live in Cyprus but I also have a house next to my mother in UK. I have a broadband connection (2Meg/512k) next door to her house. She has satellite TV installed but with only one LNB. Satellite TV in Cyprus is a problem as you need very large (and expensive) dishes to catch the Astra satellite (for UK TV & Radio). My idea is as follows : (Total cost about UK£700 - €840 - US$1,000) 1. Fit a two channel LNB to my mother's dish and conect this to a Slingbox. 2. Either connect to my router next door with WiFi (if Slingbox supports this) or sling a phone cable across. 3. Pick up the TV in Cyprus via the WWW using Apple TV which will conect with WiFi to a TV or use a direct output to an InFocusX9 projector. Sound will be handled by my exisitng HiFi system. Will this work OK and does anyone forsee any obvious snags. Advice would be very welcome as I am not much of a "techy"

Hi there, I have a question regarding Slingshot - My sister lives in Japan, but really misses her New Zealand Television. If we buy a slingshot product, will she be able to watch New Zealand television in Japan? She has broadband internet. What must I do? I tried to read the slingshot website, but it was lacking in information, and didnt have a contact email address - It all seems such a mystery. I don't want to ring the States because of different time zones and cost. Thanks!!

Hi, I am confused about the selection/choices of slings. I am going to travel around the World for a while -mostly Europe, system different.. I am planning to set up a sling at my apt. where I have a roommate, and 2 cable boxes. We use both, if not this room, than the other. Multiple channels, some HD. I can care less about HD, I just dont want to vegetate on European programs I dont understand. There are so many selections of Sling boxes, that I am confused which to choose. I have a laptop, with Vista and HDMI screen. My questions, besides which Box I should get: Will my Vista support the sling? I'd like to watch TV on a TV set, connect the laptop to a European Television set. WOuld this work out? If someone watches TV in the states, can I still watch TV thru sling on my Laptop, far away..? Does the computer/TV in the states has to be on so that I can watch sling TV? Thank you very much, any input appreciated!

When I use the Slingbox Solo from the US to Malaysia, I typically get choppy video - connectivity ranges from 90 to 140 kbps. The audio, however, is pretty good. Any thoughts on how to improve the video quality? I am using Verizon FiOS (TV and Internet) with Slingbox Turbo connectivity to my router. In Malaysia, I am using DSL connectivity provided by Telekom Malaysia/Streamyx. Do I need to upgrade my powerline connection to 200 mbps? Will Slingbox Pro-HD with H.264 compression help? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi all, I recently tried to get a UK Slingbox with the DVB-T tuner to receive digital broadcasts in HK - no luck. HK is now offering DVB-T broadcasts, and I have no trouble at all receiving them in Australia with the same Slingbox - but when I tried in HK, I couldn't find any channels at all. Has anyone in HK been able to get their locally purchased Slingboxes to receive DVB-T broadcasts? If you select HK as the country, you don't have the option of selecting the Digital Tuner, but this is just because the Player is out of date and DVB-T wasn't available in HK at the time of release. Perhaps there is some fundamental difference between the DVB-T broadcasts in HK and, for instance, Australia. Thanks, Scott...

We are on vacation in Cabo and we're hoping to use the Slingbox down here. I am on a wi-fi connection ...When I start the software, it finds and connects to my player, downloads the guide, but it then tries to optimize and then gives me an error message stating that it is having a problem connecting to my slingbox. I know my slingbox is connected correctly, as I tested it from the airport right before we came down here. The strangest thing is that when I try to log on to the Sling Media website for tech support, I cannot get the website to load. Every other site on the web that I have tried works fine (obviously inclusing this one). Anyone had simlar problems or have advice? Appreciate it.

Slinging in Singapore

I have been Slinging in Singapore now for about 5 months from the USA (Chicago). During most of the summer months I was streaming at about 600kbps-800kbps and I was pretty happy with the quality. I have Starhub with an 8mbp connection. The line attached to the slingbox in Chicago is uploading (on average) at between 1mbps-1.2mbps (i had some speed tests done a few months back). During the last month or so I have seen a very noticable drop in stream speed. I am currently able to get 200kbps-300kbps during off hours and during Singapore prime time I am lucky to get over 120kbps. I have recently done a speed test for my line in Singapore and I am downloading between 15mbps-20mbps (locally). Has anyone encountered a similar issue here in Singapore? I assume this all has to do with the connection speed into the country from the USA (which I can't assume I can change by up'ing my line speed with Starhub). Any thoguhts/idea's of how to improve would be greatly appreciated Haipo

So prior to leaving Houston Texas I set up my Slingbox HD Pro at little sis's house and moved to the UAE - Dubai Marina area to be specific. I'm running 2.0 and having mixed results on my Windows Vista system. Any thoughts or suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated: I have the highest speeds available in Houston (Comcast) 6MBPS Down and 1MBPS Up. Here in Dubai I have 8 MBPS Down through DU, but I will likely down-grade soon given the slow speeds I'm getting and the price I'm paying. When I remote connect through the Internet using just DU, I get 400 kbps for about 3 minutes and then it falls to around 50kbps (unwatchable). I feel the locals are intentionally slowing down my stream, because the first night I connected I got a steady 800 kbps for 3 hours and it was great. In order to get around this intentional slowing of my speeds I signed up with vpnboy.com for an open VPN connection. For the past 2 weeks it has worked great, I was getting a steady 550 - 600 kbps. Unfortunately, for the past 2 days I have not been able to connect to my...

Hi everyone!! I've been doing the Slingbox thing for a few months now and have it connected from the computer to the TV. We are currently stationed on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic, and have the slingbox to thank for real TV. At one point my husband had figured a way to have the slingplayer pop into full screen mode on the TV but still be a small player on the computer. This way you could watch it full screen on TV and still be able to use the computer with the slingplayer in the background. This works great when my daughter wants to watch Blue's Clues and I want to browse the internet. Sadly while the slingbox was on the cat stepped all over the keyboard and messed it up.
