This works great for me since I can not load the sling software on the computers at work. I was wondering if using quicktime instead of flash for the iPhone users in the world?

EDITING OUT COMMERCIALS EASILY?

Greetings, For editing commericals out of MPEG streams, I use VideoReDo Plus. It is unmatched in its ease of use and functionality. You open up the MPEG video stream you wish to edit, set it for automatic detection of commercials, it takes about 2 minutes to scan through the entire video stream and it puts a mark everytime there is a fade to black (commercial), you visually look and verify that they are indeed commercial breaks and select them for trimming out, once you've selected all of the areas you want cut out, you re-mux the file and it does it without losing any quality and without encoding of any kind. It finishes in about 3 minutes and you have a really nice MPEG stream that is completely commercial free! Unfortunately, VideoReDo Plus only works with MPEG streams at the moment. I use At-Large Recorder 2, to record my Slingbox feed. At Large Recorder 2 doesn't capture in MPEG format, it captures in WMV format. Too, bad! So now I need a program that works exactly like VideoReDo Plus, except being able to do it with WMV format. I want automatic commercial detection, easy cutting and re-joining ability without encoding...

I've recently purchased a Slingbox and (at certain times of day), if I'm lucky, my upstream bandwidth allows me to stream my PVR at 640x480. I'm using the At Large 2 recorder demo to try recording at these times of day but the quality is much worse than watching via Slingbox. I have set the bitrate, resolution and fps etc. to the same as my Slingplayer settings. However, the picture on recordings is noticably more pixellated. Is this typical, or is there anything I can do? Thanks for your help.

I just saw that Applian's At-Large Recorder is on sale at $29.95. The At-Large Recorder is a stable tool for recording the SlingBox stream. Though stable, it is also continues to be developed. There is a 30 day trial. Floyd PS I have no connection to Applian or to SlingMedia. I am just a satisfied customer.

Recording with Clip & Sling - The Ugly Truth

I talked to a representative today here at CES regarding their "recording" feature in the upcoming SlingPlayer 2.0 called Clip & Sling . Turns out Sling has had to reach content redistribution deals with EVERY TV content owner on the planet for this feature. Each content owner must explicitly give Sling permission to record, and then sets the time limit - some may allow 15 seconds, some four minutes, etc. No agreement: no recording. This is an INSANE amount of work for a feature with dubious value to customers. From our perspective as the publishers of At-Large Recorder, it's great news, as SlingPlayer 2.0 will NOT have any significant recording options.

Free Screen Recording Software

Some have suggested that one way to record SlingPlayer is by using a screen recorder. Here is a link to one of the tools that has been mentioned: Camtasia . http://www.thefreebiesblog.com/2007/11/22/camtasia-studio-313-free/ Originally offered to the subscribers of a specific magazine, those offering the software have agreed to honor any request that may come in. When I last tried the screen recording approach, I was disappointed, but it may do what some need. It does not come with my recommendation - just a pointer to the software. Floyd

I have slingbox pro and started using it again. I want to know if At Large recorder 2 is the best program to record shows with. Also, after recording can these videos be uploaded to an iPod to watch later. Finally, i've been using the demo version of at large recorder 2.0 and it works, but the quality of video is very poor. Is this because it is the demo version? I am searching through other postings to see if these questions have already been answered, but hopefully someone can email if you already know the answer. Thank you, sjfb25

Forum Suggestion

I like the new look - and like it more the more I wander around. I am wondering if a forum centered on Recording issues might be appropriate. Though Sling does not support the At-Large Recorder or the open source material being provided by CheckSumCoder, a great many of us do use these tools. Sling does support recording using TIVO or a DVR to time shift over-the-air material. Also, the new SlingCatcher is due to be released within a few weeks. By providing a single place for questions and comments related to these technologies, it may reduce the number of parallel threads being started in multiple forums.
