I have not heard anything, anyone else?
According to slingmedia, it was to be released in Q1 2008; i.e., today at the latest; however, as with most other slingmedia announcements, don’t hold your breath. [Unless you’re a Filipino pearl diver]
Exactly...
So now I say... lets flood them with emails asking where the new PROMISED release of Slingplayer is.
That Q1 has come and passed and it still hasn't been released.... Time for a flood of emails to Slingmedia! :) Asking where it is!
I have sent my email... have you?

Here is a copy of the email I sent to slingmedia sales.
Where is the promise of Q1?? The press release I saw said beta early this year. Granted early this year is going quick but promise is a big word..

Drumroll....

No April Fool's joke!
The Beta Community will be OFFLINE for about one hour beginning:
Tuesday April 1, 2008
11:00 PM PDT (California time)
We'll return with a whole new look & feel!
Thanks for your patience--

checked out the beta portal. In a Jan 2008 update it mentions a beta version available in MArch or April 2008.
Here's the part I like: the 2.0 version is Windwos-only. God knows when/if a Mac version will ship. My guess is they went completely windows-centric on the original codebase, had to scramble to create a Mac version and are now stuck with dual development paths. There has been no mention of a 2.0 version for Mac, much less anything like a concurrent release.
I'm beginning to think I made a mistake in purchasing the Slingbox. The fact that the stream is encrypted and not based on an open standard leaves me with no option but the Sling player to view my output.
I'm getting pretty sick of the issues around Big Content and related companies like Sling. They just seem to delight in taking this user-hateful approach. I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking I should just cancel my cable, ebay my home theater setup and spend the money on books and personal trips.
It is not like we have a choice with alternatives. At least yours is working. I have two slingboxes, a Pro and a Classic and I cannot get them to sling out to my laptop remotely. I have no idea what the problem is and today was online with a tech who checked my system (which I even just restored to factory fresh). He also got my signal on his computer, but me - no remote. I am using Vista 32 and also Vista 64 on two laptops. No luck on either. Also removed Norton, so no firewall.
In addition, there are no remote codes for any of that StarChoice Sat receivers for the DVR, so not able to control that either, even when it did work.
Sigh.
The sig note:
Atten FAA employees:
Slinging is possible through the FAA government proxy server via port443 using either amcproxy.faa.gov or awaproxy.faa.gov at port8080...still working as of Apr08...
If any FAA employees get caught doing this (I am a former) could be disciplined!
Personal use of Govt. computers is a real no no! Big Brother IS watching them!
Be careful!!!!!!
It is now June and there is no 2.0 SlingPlayer. My SlingBox Pro came with a sticker that read Sling + Clip ready. What a joke.
